After trying for a very long time to get punkbuster to run on my server,I finally decided to get a trouble ticket from evenbalance. It turns out there is no way to run punkbuster server on os x.This is totally unfair. Here is the trouble ticket(it goes from bottom to top)

Note #13: I wish I had a better answer. It seems that I guess G Divine, when he made the Q3 Mac version, decided that noone would really run a dedicated server.

Note #12: Thanks for all the help,I appreciate it.

Note #11: i just head back from my boss, well, you won't be able to run PB as a server. It seems that id just didn't even bother coding it all in. It seems there is nothing I can do here... sorry.

Note #10: Well that didnt work, the server crashed again.
07/28/2005 21:50:24 - "Derek"
Note #9: That was with it on.I set the fs_homepath to my quake 3 folder, gonna see how that goes.I also was able to run the server without cl_punkbuster by setting cl_punkbuster 0 and sv_punkbuster 0 from the command line, then doing pb_sv_enable once the server has started.

07/28/2005 21:32:13 - "Stuart Dunsmore"
Note #8: Was that with the cl_punkbuster on or off?

07/28/2005 21:28:04 - "Derek"
Note #7: Hello,/pb_homepath returned nothing and /pb_sv_homepath returned "unknown command/setting" fs_homepath returned "Users/derek/Library/Application support/Quake 3".

07/28/2005 20:54:01 - "Stuart Dunsmore"
Note #6: Hmm, something that caught my eye:

0xa3f2000 - 0xa41efff pbcl.mac /Games/Quake3/pb/pbcl.mac
0xa51b000 - 0xa52efff pbag.mac /Users/derek/Library/Application Support/Quake3/pb/pbag.mac
0xa539000 - 0xa56ffff pbsv.mac /Games/Quake3/pb/pbsv.mac
0xa5b7000 - 0xa5bffff pbags.mac /Users/derek/Library/Application Support/Quake3/pb/pbags.mac
0xa844000 - 0xa87cfff pbcls.mac /Users/derek/Library/Application Support/Quake3/pb/pbcls.mac

PB is running from two different folders.. Try these three commands in the server console

/pb_homepath

/pb_sv_homepath

/fs_homepath

Tell me what they output.

Note #5: It would be a dedicated server if Q3DedicatedServer for mac supported punkbuster, thats why I have to use the client,It is still set to dedicated 2 though. The crashlog is too big to post on here so I will upload it to my web site. Here is the link
Thanks,
Derek

Note #4: So.. this is not dedicated then? Do you have the crash log?
07/28/2005 15:09:36 - "Derek"
Note #3: If I set cl_punkbuster to 0 I cant start the server, because I get the error punkbuster must be installed and enabled to join this server.

07/28/2005 13:10:20 - "Stuart Dunsmore"
Note #2: Hmm, for starters, turn off the +set cl_punkbuster 1, running the client on a dedicated server can cause problems. You should have it at 0 actually. See if that fixes it for starters.

Note #1: Ticket submitted to support staff.
Hello,I am trying to run PB on my OS X quake 3 server.Whenever PB kicks someone it crases quake.I start the server by doing

cd /Games/Quake3; ./Quake3.app/Contents/MacOS/Quake3 +set fs_basepath /Games/Quake3 +set fs_game Instaunlagged +set sv_punkbuster 1 +set cl_punkbuster 1 +exec server.cfg

Since the Q3DedicatedServer for os x doesn't support PB I have to use the client.THe server is running Mac OS 10.4.2
Thanks,
Derek

Well I'm able to run PB on my osx server. The thing is you can't use the q3dedicatedserver app, as you have found out there's no support for it. There is however support for a dedicated server in the last Q3 build for osx which does support PB.

I'm not that good with the console so I use an app called Arena Control (I think it's $10) to run my server. It's super simple.

Hi slow,I have tried to run PB with the q3 client, but when PB kicks someone it crashes the server.Have you experienced this? Are you running quake 3 1.3.2 or 1.3.2b?
Thanks for the help,
Kings

I went back and reread your first post and saw that. To tell you the truth I don't think anyone's been kick from my server. I don't run it 24/7 and normally there's just a few friends playing on it.

I will post if it happens though.

good luck.
