Some information taken from comments SyncError made in the Q4 Preview thread at ESReality.

- And with it, the return of lava in basemaps. =) (Referring to the dm2 Remake that will be in PR 1.3)

- Hyperblaster has been adjusted.

- 6 of the old weapons have been adjusted.

- Yes, bridge to rail is very doable now. (Referring to dm6 Remake & Q4 changed movement)

- 1.2->1.3 Patch ~ 125mb
- Full 1.3 Patch ~ 250mb

- Rockets are faster, smaller and have greater knockback.

- r_forceAmbient is more robust and useful than either Q4MAXs, XBMs, GTRs, RA4s or Delta's ambient commands. Its low settings start with a much darker ambient light (r_forceAmbient 0.01) and scale up from there... this allows you to set a very dark environment and make full use of the glow paths on the brightskins, weapskins, item glows, etc. Not everyone will want to set theirs up visually that way, but I know many who prefer that and that is now possible. Luckily thanks to adding it to base, it will automatically be available to all mods who release a 1.3 compatible.

Sounds like a nice patch, looks like they finally listened to the community. And all it took was a syncerror to set the wheels in motion. ;)

Just wonder if this will really bring new people to the game... the casual players are long gone.

Prediction 1:

Nerds on the Internet who barely PLAY quake 4 will take all of sixteen seconds to examine 1.3 before announcing that it's still not what they wanted.

The new maps are from Ritual Entertainment, and the mappers' names ought to be familiar - Mr. CleaN and HAL9000. Article including commentary from them on the new levels and 14 screenshots at Ritualistic

Not sure about this item buying business but this DeadZone mode might be interesting.

I played some of Mr.Clean's Q3 maps, like, forEVER. Mutually Assured Destruction and Bitter Embrace were amazing.

Let's hope he's got the same chops for Q4 as he's had for Q2-Q3..

The new maps look really bad, texture wise they seem so random, and like they didn't really know what to do... Then again they stuck to the Quake 4 textures... Its impossible to make a decent looking map with the stock Q4 textures :(

Quake 4 1.3 Point Release

The Quake 4 1.3 Point Release is being released today. More information coming soon.

UPDATE: All QuakeCon 2006 Quake 4 tournaments will be using the 1.2 Point Release due to the limited amount of time available for players to adjust to the new gameplay changes, however, all BYOC servers will be running the 1.3 Point Release, so it is suggested that everyone patch to 1.3 except for those who may wish to keep a separate 1.2 copy for use of practicing prior and during the tournament.

Mr.Clean's = happy.

"Stroyent Red" is god's punishment for an evil world, but "Stroggenomenon", "Firewall" and "War Forged" are great maps.

i only tried retrotrpobposije and i think it looks ok. the contrast and sharpness (plained :icon32: ) is still too much though, like with any other q4 map. but the gears and glass look nice.

oh and you got your liquids, why not focus on that! :p

really ugly water, doesnt splash nor does it water sounds. lava isnt a real liquid either.
both are just some nice looking textures added as patch or something.
