Were the guys who made Quake Wars the same guys who made Quake 1-4? (id) I'm one of the younger players (I'm 11) who's mom has total control over their life, and my mom wants to know this in case of viruses. :rolleyes: And I admit it, I am a no0b.

Quake Wars was made by a company in England called Splash Damage. id software helped with design and tech but the game wasn't made by id.

Quake 1,2 and 3 were made by id but Quake 4 was made by Raven...again with id helping in design and tech.

As to viruses...what does that have to do with this?

Mom doesn't want the computer to go haywire, and I don't either! Are there any viruses?

And I coulda sworn id made Q4...

id's logo is on the Quake 4 box because it's id's IP, and they provided the engine (the same one used in Doom 3). They didn't develop the game, but they were involved in the production.

There are no viruses from ET:QW. It does download updates, but it only downloads them from authorized servers.

The Quake series are commercial products that are sold for profit in an industry that needs profit.

There are no legitimate developers that would think to include viruses in their software if they wanted to stay in business.

The way I'm reading this is that you think that any game NOT made by id might be "bogus" and contain viruses? If that's the case...tell your mom to relax and that viruses aren't lurking behind every new software install/internet link.

I don't think it's that. I think it's the general (and, to be quite honest, legitimate) fear of online-only software as being a vector for messing up a system beyond repair.

Tell your mom that ET:QW installs a seperate program that always runs in the background and sends data about her bra size and porn use to server online that can fake her credit card info and sell her house too.

Because clearly your mom has issues, really deep mental issues.

However while she may be a fucking nut case, its clear shes also trying to be a good parent and not allow you to play a game you are too young to play.

So stop being such a spoil sport and go play Mario or something. Anything to stop another child screaming over the internet when I shoot him in the face.

O'dium, in all seriousness, fuck off. You're doing nothing but trolling here so unless you have something better to say I suggest you shut up. The fact that you are calling him a "spoil sport" I find ridiculously ironic.
