Lord of War - 9/10

Excellent movie, the best of Nicolas Cage I've ever seen. Ingenius how the camera follows the single bullet in the beginning and how Orlov tells his own story. Some absolutely hysterical scenes of humour, sexy girls,

The Island - 8/10

To tell the truth, I expected nothing more than flashy shit and less than average bullcrap when I rented this with my bro and his friend. What I saw was a very original plot, great acting, good humour, great action scenes, and a plot that wouldn't give up. Ewan McGregor is pretty great and Scarlett's not too shabby either. Some interesting plot twists and the highway scene was pretty thrilling. Well done.

It's all in the execution guys, although the premise had potential, the Island was derivative, clichéd and sloppy with serious pacing issues and looong meaningless action sequences (remember what julios was talking about action sequences needing to have direction and meaning?).

Compare it to a quality bubblegum action movie like Terminator 2 or Total Recall, and you will see the difference.

I can agree that it was somewhat derivative (Logan's Run), but I thought it was decent for what it was. Not great, but not complete shit.

Woody Allen's latest and his first that I've seen in many many years. Very light but peppered with funny. Scarlett Johansen is quite lovely. The story is somewhat creative and it has a good ending.

Air-conditioned theatre on hottest day of year. 10/10

The Italian Job (newish one) - 7/10 - actually pretty good. always teetered on the edge of descending into crap but never actually fell. a good variety of characters helped

An Inconvenient Truth - 8/10 - Al Gore's reminiscences about his childhood detracted from the flow but otherwise top marks for turning a powerpoint presentation into a decent movie
