Re: Doom Eternal
Yeah, well, RTX is cute, for that 2% of people that own RTX enabled GPU's

Even with a 2080Ti I disable it since it's such a hamstring on performance

Re: Doom Eternal
For now. Give it a few years and RTX will be ubiquitous, which will be about damn time. It feels like it was nearly a decade ago when I first saw those proof-of-concept videos showing off ray-tracing....

Re: Doom Eternal
Control's incredible with it on though. I've not got a 2080Ti, just a 2080 Super, but it's brilliant with all the bells and whistles on at 1920x1080.phantasmagoria wrote:Even with a 2080Ti I disable it since it's such a hamstring on performance
2560x1440 chugs a bit too much to be playable.

I totally forgot about that game - I got it free with the card and haven't even tried it. TY!

Hugo Martin is the creative director of Doom Eternal by id Software.
I'm looking forward to listening to this episode on my next commute.

Re: Doom Eternal
So... Who's getting this? All I want to know is if there's any dark souls style multiplayer where we can invade other peoples single player games... If so I'm gonna buy this tomorrow.
Re: Doom Eternal
Haven't played it myself but Hugo Martin explains in the Joe Rogan podcast that this is indeed one of the features of the new gameΚracus wrote:So... Who's getting this? Re: Doom Eternal
Cool. Can't wait for this then, should be a fun time.
Re: Doom Eternal

Re: Doom Eternal
I'm downloading through Steam as I'm writing this!

Re: Doom Eternal
this game is even faster than doom2016 was.
Playing on UltraViolence (as you should) and the amount of pickups is very low. You really need to manage your resources by glorykilling and chainsawing your enemies.
Also you can shoot body parts off now. Very reminiscent to Quake2 with the pain skins.

Re: Doom Eternal
So what's the deal with the multiplayer?
Re: Doom Eternal
There is none.
That is, theres a dark souls type invading of other players' games for a quick skirmish. Havent tried it yet.

Before the break after which the guitars kick in, it reminds me a bit of Metroid Prime.MKJ wrote:Holy shit the opening screen music alonemick fucking Gordon
Also, the intro sequence just oozes Quake II.
edit:
I'm sorry, but that "rubber-stretchy, pop!" sound the cacodemon's eye makes when you pull it out in a glory kill is pushing it a bit on the cartoon scale :owned:
Re: Doom Eternal
the whole game has a bit of a q2 vibe to it so far.
what about the sound when you launch a grenade into the caco's mouth? Also you get a grenadelauncher in map01.

Re: Doom Eternal
The glory kill on a zombie when you punch its head between it's shoulder is so cute.
It feels much more arcade-ish than its 2016 predecessor. And you're right about the Quake 2 vibe. There's a bit of a militaristic undertone. Just look at the UI design. Looks like it's ripped straight out of Quake 4.

I think it's just the right amount of cartoon.Eraser wrote: I'm sorry, but that "rubber-stretchy, pop!" sound the cacodemon's eye makes when you pull it out in a glory kill is pushing it a bit on the cartoon scale :owned:
Re: Doom Eternal
Oh shit it's the Pagans from Q3TA.
Also I'm reading some of the codec entries and the Doom1 end of episode story music starts playing.
Hype is real.
