Ok a little more on that;

The game is fast paced, which is good. You have 2 weapons and a grenade, hence the CODish-ness. The guns don't feel solid enough for my liking - when I rocket launcher hits the floor I want some bass and some feeling of "I just blew you the fuck up". The plasma rifle is also the same; it doesn't feel like I am doing any real damage.

I liked spawning as a demon; it is massively overpowered but with some good team work, you can take it down quickly and pick up the power up yourself and run amok amongst the enemy.

I will play a fair bit more this weekend and try out more of the weapons and learn the map more, etc. But first impressions are of a very fun and very pretty game.

I actually preordered Wolfenstein. Aren't I supposed to get in on this, or at least be notified? >:(

No that's only the beta.

Played for hours last night. The strict NDA prevents me from sharing but I can say the alpha turned this sceptic's view around. This game is truly an arena shooter and a good one at that. Old Q3 players should feel right at home with its fast pacing and near flawless level design.
Stuff like the double jump adds a new layer to trick jumping in the same vein Titanfall does.

Loadouts made me a bit wary but there's still plenty of map control going on in way of powerups and unique weapon pickups.

Also, in dire need of CTF.

The game made me instinctively shout Q3isms at the screen :olo: "Fuck off nerd >:E".

More games played - really enjoying this now. The pace is the main thing; nothing has felt this fast to me for a long time.

More levels and different game play will be amazing, but so far this is holding up well. Also it is lovely to look at and runs perfectly on the old PS4

Yes it was

I played it on both PS4 and PC and it performs excellently on both of them. Playing on PC felt like I was playing a modern, very pretty Quake. It's a day one purchase for me, no question.

The videos of Doom that are online make the game look fast, but you really don’t realize just how fast it is until you get your hands on the controller. I played the PC version, running at a smooth 60 frames per second in 1080p, and learned quickly that Doom requires a different mindset for combat. While the ultimate goal is to blow away every demon as quickly as possible, you are pushed to concoct strategies on the fly, thinking not just of the next kill, but of your next series of moves, all while trying to keep the opposing forces in front of you, or in a position where their attacks can’t reach you. Verticality plays a large role in the game; enemies such as imps, who are far more skilled combatants than in previous games, use vertical spaces against you, scaling pipes to rain fireballs and charged fire blasts down on you.

Once I grasped the flow of combat (which felt fantastic in our demos), Doom proved to be a wickedly good time that empowers player skill and pushes players to develop their own style of play through its weapon variety. The thrills that come from Doom are as distinct as the gameplay mechanics, ranging from skill-driven chain reactions that can turn a handful of enemies into a smoldering bloody mess to satisfying finishers that give the player a few seconds to pause and admire their handiwork before the fray continues at a relentless pace.

Oh they got a special HUB page about Doom here:

http://www.gameinformer.com/p/doom.aspx

There's a few other articles/videos. Especially check out the "playing the new doom" video. The stuff these guys say about the game sounds really good.
