I like them both, too. I love the concept of the second one, I just wish it looked less cartoony. The top one is SICK.

I don't mind that, it's the sort of picture that I used to stare at as a kid and wonder if I could ever draw like that. Like some of the Warhammer 40k images and album art from the 90s.

I remember this one specifically I used to study for aaaaaages while listening to the CD:

Watching the previews this looks like it could be loads of fun. Peeps should keep an eye out for beta invites, I wouldn't mind trying this.

Also nothing wrong with halo, it's the arena shooters for consoles imho and does what it does well.

I don't think it works that way. You could get a beta ticket by pre-ordering the Wolfenstein game

Plenty of advertising for it's release, looks like we're on the ball here.

They've already looked, it's received an R classification. No games have been refused for violence alone, only for sexual violence or in-game benefits of narcotic use.

I read that the game isn't getting mod support beyond that lego snapmap shit. Even if it's good, that impacts mp longevity quite a bit amirite? Maps with unique geometry are important, especially since id can't make a balanced map to save their lives

I wonder how flexible SnapMap will be. If it turns out you can do some really cool things with it, then that may cause the level editing and "modding" scene to explode.

The problem with designing levels or modding modern day games is that it's reached a level of complexity and demands on time invested that it's no longer viable to do serious modding for most people. Something like Rocket Arena 3, which is pretty simple code-wise, but came with a wide array of custom maps is probably no longer easily doable for a game like DOOM. Combine that with the fact that there's three dozen other games competing for gamers' time, nobody is willing to invest time and effort into creating a mod anymore.

SnapMap, however, might actually be DOOM's saving grace here. Unless it's seriously restricted in what you can do with it, SnapMap might allow lots of people to create interesting gameplay twists with very little effort. It probably won't allow you to create total conversion type of mods like what we had in the Quake 3 days (Urban Terror, Bid For Power, QRally, etc) but so far it looks like things such as Rocket Arena, Domination and even Defrag are very well possible to do within SnapMap.

"Players won’t be able to change the geometry of the modular pieces in any way, but their properties can be tweaked significantly to create different moods and looks for each created level. The effects include a wide variety of lighting options, smoke, particles, decals, objects on the walls – there’s a lot of stuff that can be cycled through quickly."

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/ ... ds-on.aspx

Snapmap itself is fine, and lots of peeps will probably have fun with it, but there should be mod tools for advanced users.

1. Rage was difficult to mod with megatexture afaik.

2. Rage has no meaningful multiplayer or community

3. "X had an SDK and it didn't turn out so well" is a non argument and can be made about any game. A game that might have a huge modding community would be lost if people subscribe to that line of thinking.

4. Rage sucks dick

If Snapmap is what I think it is and is the only offering, then I'm skeptical that this game will have any kind of longevity or competitive future.
