lmao, this is pretty good.

http://youtu.be/A8P2CZg3sJQ

It's funny, I always thought Sean Murray just had a bit of Aspergers, with that shit-eatin' grin and shy attitude. But knowing what I know now and looking back at his interviews, it's clear that he knew he was completely unsure of the game and he was lying to us. The cheesy smile is just a nervous reaction. Pathetic...

Except that Sean Murray hasn't created any legendary games, unless I'm missing something

The "procedurally generated" exploration line really doesn't grab me at all... eventually it'll just be a grind. I think it was one of the penny arcade guys who said he was playing it and couldn't get away from "seeing the numbers" under the game... if you know it's randomly generated then it becomes less interesting.

I imagine this game becoming a bit like Torchlight, which was sort of enjoyable until the end of the "story bit, then it was just going from one generated level to the next... with no end other than when you stop playing. meh

Prefer a bit of actual story, I don't think NMS has any (yet?). Maybe it'll surprise everyone with some mad reveal about the nature of the universe?

Well, being procedurally generated and having a great story don't have to be mutually exclusive. NMS had huge potential. They just fuct it up...

it has a story aspect (one of the game 'modes') but doesnt pay off at all; according to the Kotaku review.

They should put out a 48h test version! Today you gonna miss some good games caused by not existing demos.
Last night i found a cool game called "Monster Jam Battlegrounds" on some p.rate site... Next time its on sale i will buy it. It has alot of lacks, but i had alot of fun playing it!

This critic video might be worth a look.

So apparently you can't even fly lower than a predefined margin, like there's an impassable layer of air around a planet. Someone modded the game to fix that and made this comparison video:

Now, that's cute and all (and I don't really understand why Hello Games didn't implement it this way from the start) but what struck me most is how awful the drawing distance appears to be. Assets popping in like that is just hideous.

You probably answered your own question. They saw how shitty the drawing distance was and decided they'd control your speed and trajectory to minimize the damage.

I love shitting on this game, but it's really bitter sweet. I had such high hopes for it and really wanted to enjoy it...

The video whiskey7 posted (angry review) is a pretty good explanation of all that's wrong with the game

That's reminds me of some of the criticisms Freelancer garnered on release, only a lot worse.

the reddit post seems to be updated, stating the issue is no longer present.
more likely a server hiccup than anything else.

I just realized I actually have no idea how NMS's universe is generated. If you can visit planets named by other people then there must be some persistence system in place. Is the universe generated on a central server somewhere or does the generating algorithm work so that it always generates the same universe?

Played it an hour or 2, then i was bored. But i have to say that i dont like open-world&sandbox stuff. I never understood why people like GTA... Its just crap (IMHO) -like the Goat-Simulator with less bugs :olo:

I think it's not generating in realtime, rather they used a generator to create the worlds.
that universe is on everyone's copy; the names are uploaded to the servers.
