also, I can see them changing Nyx's name, since that's already been taken:

Or you could say Phara, Soldier, Widow, Tracer, Junkrat, Roadhog and Zarya are characters that have all stolen from Quake.
I was just kidding, fluffy.
I know her name is [s]Mynx[/s] Nyx

Preview of The Campgrounds:

All the while I'm wondering whether or not there will be full mod support.

Doubtful. I reckon they'll try the same online model as new Doom. I hope not, but I've got a nasty suspicion they'll use it in order to monetise new maps.

Still not sure I'm convinced the world needs a new version of Q3 when the old one still plays well. Especially when the game eventually became less about the looks and more about the performance.

I also doubt the wisdom of including character abilities in a game that's traditionally taken pride in providing a level playing field.

Eh, whatever, I tend to avoid buying purely multiplayer games these days anyway.

The wisdom is that class based MP games sell. Pure DM is something of old.

That said, Quake Champions will feature a 'Pure' mode, removing character differences and abilities.

The gaming world has changed since the launch of the original Quake in 1996. It’s gotten bigger. There are more players from more parts of the world than ever before. Some markets simply have different expectations of how — or if — they pay for their games. By making Quake Champions both free and for-pay, his team can get it in front of as many players as possible.

“At its core, it’s a free-to-play game,” Willits said, “with the option to buy the Champion Pack and just get in and play with all the Champions. There are a number of Quake players that just want to play their Quake, right? And they are familiar with the business model of our previous games, and they are totally fine. ‘I want to buy the game. I want to start playing. I want to have access to all the Champions.’

I'm disappointed they didn't do the bridge-to-rail jump in the Nyx video (~35 seconds)
