Debunking Killzone 2
Ok shall we go through it then? Ok.
First let's look at the developer.
Gorilla. Previous games? Oh right, Killzone. A rather lack luster FPS released less than a year ago on the PS2.
A new developer with one rather poor title to their name and no real standing in the industry.
Now lets look at the KZ2 trailer as if it were ingame which it isn't ok?
Right.
This unknown rag tag group of industry low levels have someone managed to create the most detailed, high poly pushing game engine ever. An engine so superior that it has a particle engine that puts WETA to shame.
Hmm OK! This awsome engine has totally come out of the blue and has been developed in about a year? YEAH OK!
Also btw this ground breaking amazing engine hasn't been licensed to any companies yet even though it's clearly more advanced than anything else avilable or upcoming. YEAH OK!
They also managed to make a high resolution game with very high resolution textures and a bajillion polys run on a PS3 even though the PS has always been known for having the weakest hardware setup of all the big 3 systems in the past. YEAH OK!
Despite being an incredibly polished game 'demo' the game lacks even the simplest thing like...oooh I don't know A CROSSHAIR OR A HUD. YEAH OK!
The 'game' also shows someone who obviouslly knows exactlly where every enemy is going to be without actually looking round, he also seems to know how to shoot every enemy just right to trigger off the torrent of scripted sequences. The player also manages to catch every cool little thing making sure that no one misses anything. YEAH OK!

If MS had put up something truely amazing on the 360, something everybody would drool about, then I could see Sony fucking us over with a CG trailer.
But since MS has failed to deliver anything out of the ordinary (sure it looks very good, but not shockingly good), I don't see why Sony would have to resort to fakes.
And we know for a fact that the PS3 will be lots faster than the XBox360, so I don't find Killzone's amazing graphics hard to believe at all.
I'm still anxious to see whether the PS3 will have any games I like though.

It's obvious to me that it's not pre-rendered. I was watching the Killzone 2 trailer (a couple of times) on G4 tonight and believe it or not, the blockiness of this guy's shoulder, along with the slight jaggies, really drove the point home that it's in real time. Not to mention how bad the black/grey smoke looks. Don't get me wrong, I suppose it's the best looking smoke ever in a game, but I'm just saying it's obviously not pre-rendered. It's a varient of the "Hannah Barbara" effect that id pointed out during DOOM 3's development -- when you catch objects that don't really blend in with everything else there -- the color is different, the lighting is different. etc
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost
Precanned cutscene using ingame models. The whole thing is one long scripted sequence, if the player is in the wrong place at the wrong time, he wont have anything to do. In essence, even if the video WAS controlled by a person, that person had to do EXACTLY the right thing at the right time. Actual interactivity outside what he did would be almost zero.Mogul wrote:It's obvious to me that it's not pre-rendered. like i said in the other thread, theres a diff between prerendered and prescripted.
bottom line, it is the actual engine doing all this, interactive or not
