I like how strafing isn't interrupted by stairs, keeps movement fast.

It's pfg tbf. There's not much to say beyond it's Quake. Havn't really noticed people using the special abilities either.

Just getting used to the maps and want some CA action but it's quick as fuck and silky smooth

it's as if they looked at Quake 3 Arena, thought "that's a pretty fun game how can we fuck it up as much as possible?" then shit out QC.
Will be sticking with Quake Live.
Will elaborate more after NDA is up.

It's as if they looked at Quake 3 Arena and thought "how can we innovative instead of making the same game again?"

You're delusional if you think any of the crap tacked on to Q3A - I mean QC - is "innovative"

q3a is dead and quakelive's failure proved people want something new. Overwatch is very popular so yes i would say a quake game with special champion abilities is innovative for the series. The beta forums are full of people crying because it's not q3a or it's too casual. time to face reality, kids.

I don't know why you're bringing up Overwatch as, other than being first person FPS games, they aren't related to each other at all.
For a game that isn't q3a it sure feels a hell of a lot like q3a.
They're holding on to the designs of q3a too much to consider it a fresh or innovative experience. Hell, it's tacked on less to q3a than most mods had.

While I agree with your general sentiment (without having played QC, mind) I think Quake Live's failure was not due to people wanting something different but due to it being marketed too much as "Quake 3 in your browser".
