phantasmagoria, love the detail (hieroglyphics) especially on the top of the mask

So Phant, how much creative control do you have with these projects?
For example, I see there is a scratch on the eye guard. Is that something you are told to add to make him appear like he’s been in some heavy battles? Or is there not that much thought put into it and they just tell you to do what you want?

Depends on the importance of the character, all the bone texture on that mask was me just sculpting away myself, but the form is very much influenced by the designers. With stuff like that damage, sometimes it'll be very specific (kylo ren) but other times, like with this character, they'll maybe say add a scratch here or take one out there, but it's quite free. Especially as I've built a good relationship with the designers now. Also sometimes I'll make it clean and then guys in the workshop will weather it, especially on multiples so damage isn't duplicated.xer0s wrote:So Phant, how much creative control do you have with these projects?

The droid was a particular achievement for our dept this film. I must have done at least 10 completely unique sculpts and one of the designers, Glyn, must have done a hundred sketches till we ended up with what you see in the trailer. Compared to the K2 droid in Rogue, a lot more of it is practical and a person inside a mechanical costume rather than just someone leaping around in a green suit.

Sorry no I meant the droid with the round head in the falcon. Not sure I can reveal its name yetxer0s wrote:That is so fucking cool.
When you say the droid, you’re talking about the character in the pic you posted? I would have guess that was humanoid with a helmet...
I saw that announcement you linked. Hmm. I can't see how this will work with Rian doing a trilogy too? Unless his is animated or some shit. We still have 9 to make, as well as the next confirmed spin off. It might be that the productions move to another studio at that point and we go on to other stuff and give other people a slice of the pie.
I'm kinda excited for a GoT type version though... Maybe see what happens when a Wookie losses at space chess!
