I have no comparable experience, but I reckon it must be extremely exciting to see the actual home you're going to be living in getting built and taking shape.

It’s very cool. Especially since my wife and I designed the whole thing. I’m sure there will be some missteps and some things we would do differently, but it’s a great experience...

That's great.
How are you making sure it's structurally sound and complies with whatever building/construction/safety laws are applicable in your state? You have an architect that helps you out with that stuff?

So you have a concrete slab between your basement and first floor? Or am I looking at the picture wrong?

Correct. The basement doubles as a tornado shelter. So you wouldn’t want a wooden ceiling in your basement. With the slab poured on top, the house can fall in on itself and I’ll just be chill’n in my theater room...

Interesting, you don't see that around here, but then again we don't get many tornadoes.

In Oklahoma, the house will collapse in on itself from a tornado... It's only a matter of time/poor... :olo: ...

Sorry to drag this off-topic, but what's with the "ok boomer" thing everywhere? Seemingly from one moment to the other, I suddenly can't turn my arse around on the Internet without bumping into three "ok boomer" posts anymore.
I'm pretty sure it's not Gears of War related
