I just got done installing a new exhaust system, intake and tuner on my Harley.

So you made it louder?

It is louder, but not obnoxiously louder. The stock exhaust was muted substantially and didn't have the Harley rumble that is widely associated with the brand. I like that rumble, so I changed out the head pipes and the mufflers, as well as the intake. Not only did I get the sound I wanted, I also picked up some horse power. The new intake looks awesome too.

Funny memory just came flooding back...

In my youth a hundred years ago, did I ever mention I was a bowser monkey? You know, in the days before technology, 'plastic' and self serve at 'servos'? A time when we usually had fellas at garages serve you, putting petrol in your car and check the oil, tyres and clean the windscreen.

The memory was of me talking to a 'petrol head' and the time was well before 'rice burners', think hot rods and you're close... We were on about car performance improvements. He suggested taking out the baffles in the exhaust muffler of his car made it go faster :smirk:

Now me, a little naive thought this had an essence of truth in it Goodness knows why but I could see merit in the idea.

Anyway, I spoke to a young and upcoming mechanic apprentice and he challenged the belief saying 'modern cars' relied on some obscure 'back pressure' from the exhaust to aid peak performance.

TLDR; don't fiddle factory fitting

Time to ask the question then: Does removing exhaust baffles change performance?

Removing back pressure will cost you some horse power. Even though removing baffles and installing straight pipes increases air flow and sound, it also hinders the motorcycle's performance. Today's motorcycles have computer controlled fuel systems. If you make changes to the factory exhaust you need to re-tune your fuel system to account for those changes. The new exhaust system I installed increases the air flow out of the engine, but also has mufflers with baffles to supply the necessary back pressure. To accommodate the increased air flow out , I installed a new heavy breather intake. I also installed a Vance and Hines Fuel Pack 3 tuner. The FP3 gives you the ability to flash your bike's computer with a custom tune for the parts you installed. You simply plug the tuner into the ECM, connect via blue tooth from your smart phone, build a custom tune with the V&H app and flash the ECM. Or you can do what I did and have a V&H tech use an upload from your bike to build a custom tune.

Got any pics of the whole collection?

Sorry for the shitty pictures my phone makes, but here are some

All the way to the right is the "Assembly Square" set which my girlfriend is building. It isn't finished yet because a large plate piece was missing from the box. LEGO has awesome service for such situations though. You can order replacement parts for free. Don't even have to pay shipping.

That's awesome

I wish I had pics of all the 80s and 90s city sets I used to build with my dad and brother. Eventually I started building my own cities to house my massive car collection and created new sets by mixing and matching Legos.

These pics are from around 2004, everything's sitting in boxes at my parents' place in Finland now. One day I'll get a spare room to rebuild it in.

Heh, very nice. All of my childhood LEGO is still packed in containers in the attic. When my kids get over their tendency to lose their own LEGO bricks all the time I might pull it out again.

Mazda I love those pics.

All my childhood lego got given to a neighbor, without permission, when I left home :tear:

Ironic that the person here whose cranium most resembles a block has a disdain for Lego

Maybe just because of that he got bullied with Lego when he was a kid himself.

Settle down snowflake. I'm sure most people enjoyed Lego as a kid. I certainly did. But let's be honest here. If you're an adult and still find Lego to be "awesome", you're living a sheltered life.

Do you like apples? Do you appreciate eating utensils? Do you have a favorite shirt?

Are they awesome? Come on...

It’s just a word dude. If you want to get pissed about the misuse then you need to get pissed at the US.

I guess if you disagree with someone in Europe and explain why, you're pissed.

Gotcha...

I'll leave you and your padded helmet to be amazed, astonished, astounded and marveled by the stupendous, sublime, surprisingly wonderful box of Lego. :tard:

I've been meaning to add, nice collection Eraser

I briefly ventured into the trains in Lego (City) but never the actual buildings side. Trains lasted a few months but I then offloaded and seems I am sticking with the 'Technic' theme.

Near time to disassemble the 4 lots pictured above and put in 'zip lock' bags and box away for the years ahead. I'll (re)open some others and assemble. Like Christmas again :D

We had a lovely Christmas and NY in Finland, starting with a family Christmas cottage trip

Oodi central library in Helsinki, opened last year as "a gift to the people". Filled with study rooms, reading nooks, and a lovely cafe across 3 storeys with loads of natural light. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Lady and I took a day trip to Tampere and walked around for miles. It's an old factory town with a ton of history and architecture, now full of startups and leading the way in cleantech.

Went with my brother to see our favourite childhood hockey team

Now I need to work off the extra weight I gained on this trip

And took the opportunity to build a new workstation for the parents while we stayed with them

Best time to visit for foreigners is July and August, unless you want to experience the polar night in Lapland.
