I have been retired just over 7 years and never been bored. I practise every day but just never seems to get it quite right, retirement that is. Loving life
Whatcha practicing? I had hobbies and such but gave up fishing and skating and surfing now just walk the beach daily and collect shells and sea beans. Had three surf shops and closed all them down to just sit back and relax in life.
Yeah three shops was an absolute nightmare. All three locations were on the same street along the beachfront here and all had different focuses, but shared same brands. One was more tailored to skateboarding and another dedicated to surfing and the other had a mix of the two yet had more of a tourists setup. It more so just got to the point of not being able to compete with Academy sports and their bulk purchase pricing on things like Reef, Hurley, O’Neil, Volcom and Fox. Sad, but I don’t miss the lazy ass teenager employees.
Are you taking advantage of your appliance’s warranties?
Bait :olo:
The fridge is 8 years old and no, I don't usually buy additional warranties. Having said that, a friend bought a new Dyson with the warranty. Just as well as it was needed not once but twice. Something about the rotary head. No questions asked at the point of sale either. Just handed over another BNiB. This is the third and going well by all reports.
Pro tip, get the extended warranty on your console controllers. Mine last about 3 - 4 months before I need to replace them. I paid about 10$ for my last 8 controllers, all new, out of the box.

I play a fair bit but the problem is rocket league. I've mapped the boost button to the right bumper and unsurprisingly in heated moments when you need boost your hand will abuse the fuck out of that bumper button. They're poorly designed and after a few months a piece inside tends to break thus my cycle of replacing controllers with the extended warranty.
The lady that works at EB Games here in town gave me a hard time after I returned the last one. She started bitching about how many controllers I've returned and I pointed out that she's the one offering me the extended warranty as per her company policy. It's not my fault the controllers are built like shit and it's not my fault her company wants them to push this warranty on customers. She told me next time my controller breaks that I'd have to go through microsoft to get a replacement. So I get my new controller and she asks me if I want the extended warranty on this one. I'm like yeah... of course I do. See you in a few months bitch! Like what's she going to do? The warranty is specifically so you don't need to go through microsoft, that's the whole point. It's funny how she's perfectly ok with pushing these warranties on customers but she's expecting customers to not use them? lol yeah good luck with that lady.
Admittedly though my current controller has lasted me far longer as I've been off rocket league for a while now. Perhaps I should load it back up before the warranty expires...
Re: What is new in your little world, I just signed up for First Aid course next Monday. I've done a few courses over the years and even been the First Aid Officer for my workplace. Requests for band aids for paper cuts annoyed me but then....

Was at a friend's place a while back and he had installed multi-coloured LED's in his entire house and connected it all up to Google home. We got hammered and spent the entire night yelling at Google to change various rooms into different colours. Stupid fun :olo:
I was at the polling booth today to cast a vote in the local election early. Walking back to my car I watched a large black ute** reverse in to my KIA :tear: and there was nothing I could do to stop it...
Luckily he stopped, because, as you know, if it were a shopping centre or I wasn't about he might have driven off with out leaving details.
Long story short, home, called insurance and the car goes in for repair first up tomorrow. I get a rental (free) because I was able to identify the offender...
That sucks dude, you should try to get the insurance to pay you for a loss of value too. Beyond the costs of repairs the car will now have an accident on its report and re-selling the car will be more of a challenge and you're likely to sell it at a lower price because of it. That price difference should be owed to you. I had a similar situation happen to me when a truck bumped me from behind while I was stopped at a light.

You've got a public registry for accidents for vehicles? I don't think such a thing exists over here in the Netherlands.
Also, why would an accidemt negatively impact the value of a car? If the damage is fixed it's fixed.

You guys don't have carfax? That's crazy, over here everything is kept on record. If you take your car in for service, that'll show up on the record when you buy a used car. If you buy a used car and it has a front end accident and the seller is asking mint condition price he's going to have to lower his price to sell it. If a vehicle doesn't have it's full service schedule recorded that's going to reduce the value of the vehicle when you sell it.
When we buy a used car we look to make sure the car was never in an accident and was always serviced at regular intervals. If either of those things is missing you can usually convince any dealership to lower the price of the vehicle and if they don't you just don't buy it. When I sold my 370Z the buyer asked me to lower the price by 1k due to the accident report even though it was literally just a scuff on the paint. I obliged because the guy that hit me paid me 2k, 1k for the repairs and 1k for the value reduction of the vehicle.
Also just because it's fixed doesn't mean it won't have unusual wear on parts. Electronic wires get squished in collisions, they work fine for a while until a little water gets in there and suddenly you have electrical issues that can cost thousands to repair... Any vehicle that's been in a collision has this potential problem, especially front end collisions.
Except you don't know who fixed it or if it was done properly with OEM parts or cheap and fast with second-line products. An accident instantly reduces the resale value of a car, regardless of severity.

I have never heard of a 'registry' here although we have one for the finance angle. I don't believe for a moment the "value" will decrease because of the accident.
Re 'if it is fixed it is fixed', most if not all insurance companies here have a guarantee for life (of the car) on any MVA repairs.
