7800 tech demo's

Post by Pooinyourmouth_needmerge »

The new nVidia 7800 demo's are out and up for downloading at http://www.nvidia.com.

They work just fine on my 6800 GT, incase you where wondering if they where 7800 only.

I must say Luna is the most realistic face i've ever seen on a tech demo.

Here is a screenshot from my PC of luna. I used the sliders to make her hair blue.

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

To be honest you need to see it in motion. The stills do it little to no justice.

Well with the AMD M2s and all coming out next year I will most likely buy new parts next year, hopefully a 7800GTX if I can afford it.

There isn't really much for the mto do, thats why the results look flat. TBH, my 6800 looks just a bit worse from those results, and im cool with that.

Its only when we start getting the next wave of games that have higher polygon counts, higher resolution materials and more fill rate heavy scenes, that the extra pipelines and memory shifting speeds + extra ram will come into play. ATM, there isn't enough for these cards to "toy" with.

Yay, more tech demos of gfx that won't make it into consumer products for years. *hint (think gf3/gf4/gffx/gf6 tech demos of yesteryear). :icon29:

Thats because they only just run on the hardware they are made for, and not at gaming speeds. They are also small demos, in a small closed of space. If people think stuff like this will make it into full scale PC games in the next year even, they cna think again. PC's, indeed GPUs are not fast enough for it on that scale.

UT2007 is coming out at the end of next year, supposedly.

Every FPS game doesn't quite push the engine technology to it's limits on launch simply because it has to make everyone happy. Just think how much better DOOM 3 would have looked if they didn't have to please all the hobos still running GeForce 2 era graphics cards.

UE3 looks incredible as it is. I can't wait for all the mods to come out for it. I see in UE3 a heavy concentration on environmental fidelity. Once everyone is on hardware suitable for games of a generation beyond UE3 technology, modders could shave some polys off the environment and throw it on the characters.

The one thing that bothers me: DirectX is pretty much the standard these days. Why can't Microsoft get on the ball and code a proper hair system? Cloth is easy, but hair really can't be done in games without some major help from DX10 or whatever. It would be nice to not have to model hair anymore.

Edit: By the way... The specular map in that nVidia demo looks pretty shitty.

when girl gamers are equal in numbers to male gamers they'll use a male 'mascot' for these demos instead and threads like this will take on a distinctly gay aura

Yeah, so what's the point for them to show off these gfx on CURRENT hardware... by the time a game can run like that (without sacrificing polygons for heads and shit cough doom 3 cough), nvidia and ati will be marketing a whole new line of cards to 'be meant to be played with nvidia gf 97100 fxgxturbo'.

Because dear sir, it CAN be done. Its all about $$$.

If Timmy sees that this card can do fancy effects really fast, then Timmy will damn well want to buy one, even if its £300. They shouw you demos like this to trick joe public. "Yes, we can do all this cool shit in REAL TIME!! Come on, buy the card then check the demos, its amazing!" etc etc, which is true, they can do it in real time. But like the PS3 water tech demo, its nice in a closed off enviroment where you get control over everything. But add it to a REAL game world, and it becomes a different story. Different, because its not just the fancy water that your GPU has to work out any more.
