Here's a question:

Post by Nightshade »

I have an XP2500+ and 2 Gb of PC2700. What's going to happen if I get an XP3200+ and slap it in? Huge performance increase? Marginal due to the RAM?
?

i woudn't spend another dime on that system for what you'd get.

you could go a64cpu and cheap mobo. use the 2700 ram for now. would still be faster than a 3200xp and you could peg away slowly at upgrading to faster ram.

Hrrrm, trying to go as cheap as possible. It's not something I NEED to do, just wondering what the best bang for the buck upgrade would be to bring things up to par with my 6800GT.

i think youd need a64 to match it well.

edit: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh ... i=2149&p=7

check it. the slowest a64 crushes the 3200xp. thats in doom3 but you could apply that across the board.

CPU & mobo recommendations? I'm half-lit and lazy atm...

i dunno. may as well go cheap. any 939 board and a 3200+ would be good.

that will last the life of your video card. you will have to go pcie system in the future anyways so why spend alot.
