Whats the best, silent, cooling?

Post by o'dium »

Apart from wter cooling and all sorts...

I'm after a replacement PSU, and a new fan for my CPU. I wouldn't mind them to have LED's but thats not important. Anyways I'm after something thats as quiet as possible.

I have 4 Vantec Stealth fans in my case, and they are pretty quiet.

http://www.silenx.com Has some serious fans that are near silent. I bought a crapload of these when I was trying to silence my HTPC. Their Powersupply line is prolly the most silent active cooling units I have ever "not" heard :p well worth the extra bucks IMO

GO big and slow for optimal silence. I also replaced my CPU cooler with a Zalman cooler to get a larger cooling surface.

FYI even with a filter the bigger fan really sucks in the dust this is after about 2 months of running 24 hours a day.

You find that too? I've got 2x120mm fans in my case and I've never seen a case get dusty so quickly.

I went and bought a filter and it still gets in there, just smaller particles :D

I wish I'd taken some images of the PCs from work last year. Being in the middle of an active steel mill, those things got dustier than you can imagine.

We had a leaf blower we used to clean them out, and we used it a couple of times a week. There are less than 20 PCs on the shop floor too.
