Just finished it (Spoilers)

Post by shiznit »

I thought the game was great, however I was trying to get something and missed the last line, what did that guy tell him after he got the phone call? Then it zoomed onto his eyes?

Here is a quick list of things I thought were good/bad.

Good.
Excellent models, I especially liked the dude with the shield.
Becoming Strogg.
Cool looking bosses.
Cool effects, the new BFG effect was great.
Smarter AI, runs after you and takes cover.
Your team could take a hit and even cover you.
Outside environments.
Ragdoll effects when killing enemy.
Tank & Mech give you a break from repetitive gameplay.
Hyperblaster finally useful.

Bad.
Near the end you got the portals that spawn the enemy, kinda lame.
Reloading, useless.
Weapon models aren’t the best.
Medics/Tech dudes won’t heal you all the time.
When you kill the enemy you got the green vaporizing, lame as hell.
Too much talking, you can never pay attention to it.
Not enough outside environments.
No water, lava or acid.
Doesn’t really feel like Quake2, still a bit too dark in some areas.

Overall I would say 8.5/10, I really enjoyed playing it. Looking forward to mods now.

What I thought about other games:
Quake – 9/10
Quake2 – 9.5/10
Half-Life – 9/10
Half-Life2 - 9/10
Farcry – 8.5/10
Doom3 – 6/10

I'm only looking at the single player, I can't just the multiplayer since I can't play it with decent fps and it always feels like crap.

So what did that guy say?

I was shocked beyond belief that there was no water.

id got a LOT of stick for there being no water in Doom 3, so they gave the bullshit excuse that its Mars, there wont be water.

Yet... Strogos has water. And Acid. And Lava...?

I saw Water ONCE in Quake 4. It was in that room by the first tank your meat. Inside there just before you see him, look over the edge and theres some glowing shiney stuff... Not exactly nice to look at...

All it needs is a decent fragment program, its not THAT hard hitting on your FPS, we have had it running in a heavily detailed Q2E level. Plus, just do the farcry way and give us OPTIONS to turn it up/down.

Silly boys.

EDIT: The problem is for the most part that transparent surfaces in a per pixel engine will "glow" in the dark, meaning that the water would look odd. Doesn't stop you making lava though, a liquid that was on pretty much all Quake 2 levels...

Just wanted to add that it was about time someone put in some killable 'big' beasties in these games.

I am loving it so far. Haven't finished it yet, but I'm on my way to the second tower you have to activate.

I can't wait to see what in hell that massive flying beast was. :paranoid:

I have to say that this is the first game - since probably Doom 2 - that has kept me so enthralled I haven't been able to put it down until I finished it.

Doom3 definitely didn't do that. Even Serious Sam's fun factor wore off after a little while (the first one), but this game is perfectly paced and just keeps me in suspense to see what is coming up around the next corner.

I still think (sorry) that Unreal 1 was my favorite game of all time. The Co-op owned. Quake 4 is tight though, and if they can make a co-op mod, my opinion about Unreal 1 being the best may change over time.

Ooh that's my favourite skin. Damn I love Q2 multi.
If it wasn'f for all the midterms right now, I would probably dust off the cd and start playing now. :icon26:
