definatly awesome boards. I have one 74GB Raptor and it owns, especially in map load times. I also have a BFG Tech (awesome company that makes great nVIDIA cards) 6800 GT AGP that I love. I am running an overclocked 2.4 GHz Athlon XP and I get no lag at all, so my dream rig would be pure ownage in everything from play and work

Suggestions? Yeah, another 6800 :p

It looks good YG. Make sure you post some benchmarks once you get it put together.

Yeah, another 6800 would be nice. But that's something I'll do in another year or so.

I'm probably gonna order this weekend, with another friend of mine who's gonna get the same PC, plus drives, case and PSU.

right now I'm reading about the nf5 chipset and it's reported overclockability, think my dream machine is in the future cause if NF5 as good as reported, it would be an amd/nf5 based system, SLI with two of the best available nvidia cards at the time, watercooled and overclocked to the max. And pc power and cooling 550 watt power supply. Top end AMD processor. I guess that's a little general, but why want what is available now when there is something better to dream about just around the corner.

damn, granted 3 different sockets, but still the same AMD 64 architecture and it has gone thru 3 series of nForce chipsets

The problem with that logic is, there's always something better just around the corner. If you never buy what's out now, you're going to be left dreaming forever. :icon1:

Nah, I actually did buy and build last summer, did pretty good within a limited budget and overclocked nicely. Plays D3 quite well. Far Cry plays OK. Could OC more with a beefier power supply.

Your new rig is looking pretty sweet. It'd be interesting to see some game benchies on that when it's done. Is the Asus A8N a pretty fast board?

Well I finished my system with the AMD Athlon 64 4000+. I couldn't get the FX55AS by the time I wanted it and saved $250.00 by going with the 4000+.

The final system will be.

ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64 4000+
1 gig Corsair PC4400 twinx 2.5ns RAM
Geforce fx 6800 256mb ULTRA OC
(2) Maxtor 80 gig SATA 8mb 7200 RPM RAID 0 Stripe
(1) Maxtor 250 gig SATA 8mb 7200 RPM
Pioneer DVR A105
Lite-On 52x24x52
Antech 550 watt true power PSU

I also ordered a friend's system tonight too. He got the exact same thing, except for the drives. He got, (2) Maxtor 200 gig SATA 8mb 7200 RPM drives that we may RAID 0 Stripe and a Pioneer DVR-109, dual layer DVD burner.

These should be some smokin systems....

I'll post some benchies when they're done. :icon14:

If you have Doom 3 I'd love to see a report on how it runs on that rig.

Yeah, I've got Doom 3. I'll be interested to see what the game looks like with AA turned all the way up. I already can play at max detail, 1024X768 with my current PC. But I can't use AA with that setting.

Yeah, definitely test it with AA all the way up. Curious to see the fps you will get with those settings, too.

With my current PC, I get 35 FPS at 1024x768 Ultra quality. No AA though.

I probably could have got away with just upgrading the video card to a FX6800 256 Ultra AGPx8. But I wanted to go PCIE, so I had to change to the mobo. Since I changed the mobo, I thought it wouldn't be right if I didn't upgrade the CPU and RAM too. :icon25:

yes, you might as well. More fun that way, anyway. Are you going to try OCing?

Yeah.. Unfortunately the AMD 64 4000+ has a locked clock speed multiplier and I'll have to use the FSB. That's why I bought the 550MHz DDR 4400 RAM. It should give me plenty of FSB range to O/C with.

make sure you keep ontop of the Hypertransport multiplyer..

also, i would like to add that overclocking any of the new AMD's is a diffrent world.. thus far 400mhz is the best i can yeald out of this cpu.. ( 3200+ 90nm core )

There's a guy with a Chaintech NV4 board and a winnie 3000 that's running at 2.7 ghz. Let me check...yes, here's his specs:
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra (Beta BIOS) @ 300HTT
A64 3000+ Week 44 Winchester @ 2.7GHZ
4 x 512MB Kingston HyperX 3200 DDR
Gigabyte 6600GT @ 570MHZ (Mem @ 1.21GHZ)
2 x WD SATA 7200 RPM 120GB 8MB Cache HDD's in RAID 0
impressive - there another guy on the site running a 3200 at 2.7, too. He's on watercooling, the first guy is on aircooling.
