Who would be interested in a CTF clan?

Post by Lenard »

I would really like to start up a CTF, q3w based clan. I would like to play some really organized ctf with some good players. Not even great, just team players that would be willing to work strategies and get better and better. I love ctf, and I feel like if it is played correctly, q4 ctf can be great. I would like to try it out and see how we fare. If it still sucks, we can wait for a good ctf mod to come out. I personally just hate how unorganized everything is on the public ctf servers. I end up being the only one trying to get caps while everyone else is dming. It's not fun then also because you have no one to protect you, and so almost always die. I feel like if We get a good team going, with two good fc defenders and a good runner and solid defense, we could have some really good games. I dream of a ctf clan that is a well oiled machine. Don't even reply if you're not sure that you are willing to work as a team for the greater good. :icon27: :icon25: :icon31:

That's the problem usually; you need people that have the willingness and the time to keep working on team their individual and team performance. Perhaps it works better with players that know the basics than with noobs with lots of talent.

You're probably right. I have actually never been in a real clan before, although I have played ctf since forever. I would love to play some competative ctf in q4, but it will probably be hard to find players.

Where are you in the world?

How many play in ctf matches? I know it can be hard enough coordinating a 4v4 match. 5v5? 6v6?

I am from sacramento Cal. I don't really know anything about the ctf scene as of yet, I am out of the loop. If the scene doesn't exist then we should start it.

I just wonder how many it takes to play in a CTF league...

the number just simply depends on what the league admins decide. I imagine 5v5 will be the most common format, but you could 6v6 or 4v4 also. 5v5 I think has historically been the sweet spot.

As for getting a team together probably the best thing to do is get on irc and setup a team channel. My team is on irc.enterthegame.com, and I think quakenet is the other main irc network where the other half or so of the players hang out, and some on gamesnet probably too. Anyway once you get a channel you will have a place for ppl to go when you find them.

So now that you have a home you can find ppl to join your team by joining one of the main channels in irc such as #quake4 and #q4ctf and then start getting into pug's (pick-up games) and in general just chatting with ppl. when you find someone who is cool and about your skill you could ask them if they want to join up with your team. This approach might take a bit of time, but it's not the easy route. The easy route is to probably ask around in irc to see if ppl know any clans that are recruiting and then try to join up with them. Starting your own clan is a bit harder if you don't already know ppl who want to be in it.

Of course you can also check out some league sites such as CAL, teamwarfare.com, worldogl.com or maybe some others to see what clans are on those sites, or make your own on those sites and advertise in their forums for new members. They usually have a recruiting / available player forum.

If you want, you could probably join up with my team, h2o. We are still getting going with the q4 lineup, but feel free to drop by #team.h2o on etg sometime.

When any league/ladder/competition runs Quake CTF with anything other than 4 vs 4, their credibility is forever tarnished with me. ;)

agreed :]

the Q4 ctf maps are not that big so a 4v4 would be ideal.

I may be wrong, but I think 4v4 was a Q3 thing. That's not to say that 4v4 isn't allowed in Q4. I'm just saying, don't act like 4v4 is The Way God Intended CTF To Be.

I coulda sworn it was 5v5 back in the early days of q3. Maybe I'm just imagining things though.

How many members you got midnight? Tell me about your clan. Do you all have specific positions yet or at all? How organized are you and how much have you played together? Stuff like that.

UK/EU leagues have always used a 5v5 format, I think the US has played a 4v4 format for some time now.

yeah, the US has always done 4v4 and the Euro leagues have done 5v5. Being a long time Q2CTF player myself(the best CTF out of any of the quakes, Q3's removal of grapple killed CTF), I have found that playing 5v5 is actually a lot more fun.

Is that Slasher]PV[? :)

He speaks the truth.
Removal of grapple killed CTF.
I still play, but it's really not the same.

Removing grapple from CTF is a bit like taking the "girl" out of sex.
You're just masturbating in the end.

But I disagree that 5v5 us fun. :)
For most maps its just too doggone crowded.
Spawn -> Die. No weapons, armor or ammo.
To me 4v4 has always felt the most balanced for MOST ctf maps.

I hope you guys get a ctf clan started soon, we need more clans to scrim in the community! :)
