Lag spikes

Recently whilst playing q3 online i have had frequent connection interuptions that come and go every so often. It also occurs that when i kill somebody ect. this did not used to happen does anybody know of any possible cause of this other than a crap connection. Which has actually been improved since the days of my computer running quake smoothly?

PC specs? (CPU, RAM, Video Card)

Internet connection type? (56k, Cable, DSL, etc.)

2.80GHZ 448RAM Ge Force 5200

Broadband (should be 8 meg but isnt)

Download 430kbps Upload 323kbps

- Does it happen on one, several or all servers?
- Is your connection wireless?
- Have you scanned for spyware/malware/viruses lately?

Yes its wireless.

Although i used to run smoothly on amercan servers. Now have problems playing server located in the uk(where i live.)

Ill have a scan for viruses havnt done that in a while.

OK i will try this but will disabling "Wireless zero configuration" effect my connection to the internet and with the other computers in my house? Also i have recently upgraded windows xp to service pack 2 which uses a fire wall which was mentioned as a possible cause of the problem in the thread you directed me to. Is there a way I can disable this also and will it make a difference?
