Quake 3 Problem.. help
Quake 3 Problem.. help
Alright.. I installed Quake 3.. Downloaded 1.32.. installed that.. Downloaded 1.32c.. went to Win32 and double clicked Quake 3.exe and get this
Couldnt load default.cfg (blinking in red)
Q3 1.32c win-x86 May 8 2006
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
C:\...............\Quake III Arena 1.32c\win32/baseq3
----------------------
0 files in pk3 files
Running in restricted demo mode.
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
C:\..............................\Quake III Arena 1.32c\win32/demota
----------------------
0 files in pk3 files
----- CL_Shutdown -----
-----------------------
Couldn't load default.cfg
But that isnt the problem.. I just ignore the 1.32c since it doesnt work.. and play on the 1.32.. and most works.. EXCEPT Whenever I try to play a freeze game (those used to be my favorite) it loads up but right before the game comes up it disconnects and says unpure client or something... and invalik pk3 files....... so.. someone help please!

I don't think it's the demo version (is there a 1.32 for the demo version?) It's just running in restricted demo mode because of the error probably.
I've had some toughts of my own but this is what I found on the net concidering this problem: (http://www.gamespy3d.com/using/quake3.shtml)
"There are two ways to deal with this. The first is to reinstall using the Maximum install options. This is the recommended solution as running Q3A from CD while in multiplayer will almost certainly cause your game to pause while loading sections. Level transitions will also be slower while data is loaded from the CD. If you really cannot find the extra 500MB+ on your hard disk then you can use the minimum install by following these steps.
1. In GameSpy|Games and filters locate the Q3A Command line option.
2. Change the command line by adding...
+set fs_cdpath D:\Quake3\
to the command line. Note: if your CD ROM is not D: then change the D: accordingly.
3. The command line should now read...
Quake3.exe +set fs_cdpath D:\Quake3\
4. Click the OK button to close the command line window and Click OK again to close the Games and filters window."
I hope it helps!
Have fun fragging.

You are seeing in his first post:Foo wrote:You've installed the patch to the wrong folder. That's all there is to this one.
Running in restricted demo mode.
I do think he's trying to patch the demo which he's already been
told it's not possible... Hmmmm.
Cortex( ) .... As far as I know there is not a patch 1.32 for the demo.
If there were it would really make things confusing.
I still don't see how this could be as simple as you've installed the patch in the wrong folder Foo

EDIT: Simplest thing to do is Bloodbath to show us the file contents of the baseq3 folder.....
Chucking the 1.32 patch into an empty folder then running it produces this:PieceMaker wrote:You are seeing in his first post:Foo wrote:You've installed the patch to the wrong folder. That's all there is to this one.

I guess the problem stems from:
- Q3 only needs its .exe and .pk3 files to start up
- The patches consist of the .exe and supplemental pk3 files
- Q3 concludes that you're running the demo if it can't find pak0.pk3
- I'm guessing 1.32c was purely an update to the quake3.exe which would also explain the '0 files in pk3' bit that different from his log to mine.
