Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
the SLI setup isn't disappointing. on the contrary, i've tried games with no SLI then SLI running (i.e. HL2) and the difference is very significant. what's less than stellar is that i have 2 x 7600GS. 2 x 8800GT would kick any GTX's arse in terms of performance no worriesPlan B wrote:Would it be worthwhile to buy another 8800gts 640 if that happens?SoM wrote:i read somewhere that geforce 9 is around the corner so expect a price drop on the 8's
I keep reading Seremtan's disappointing results with his SLI setup (anyone else here have a SLI setup?) so I'm starting to doubt if the benefits outweigh the cost.
all i was wondering is if ONE GT will outdo my TWO 7600GS
if i were to get 2 x GT i'd need a new PSU of course

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
I'm thinking yes, definitely.seremtan wrote:all i was wondering is if ONE GT will outdo my TWO 7600GS

Yeah, it does... And it runs Crysis max detail smooth as silk, which is great (USing the high detail hacks for the new demo).
So, UT3 runs perfect, Crysis does, COD4 does... Its good

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
tbh i toying with the idea of buying two and a new PSU to cope. set me back £400 but if i ever want to play crysis smoothly at better than 800x600 LQ i need to do something...
then again, maybe the crysis demo doesn't support SLI (demos often don't) but the full game will. hope so

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
where did you get it? overclockers has pre-order only...o'dium wrote:Ok, got it, installed it, and even with a shitty setup in dire need of a format (in a bit), its not even trying. I managed to test 20 lights in Doom 3 on the same spot and had barely a hit on performance. Quake 4 runs like a dream, ET:QW like butter etc... In fact the only thing I think will test it, is the Crysis demo, but I'll get that once I format.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
That scan site i posted? It was in stock, then after a few days, out of stock

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
Ah, I must have misinterpreted your disappointment with them running the Crysis demo as disappointment with SLI in general.seremtan wrote:the SLI setup isn't disappointing. on the contrary, ...
Anyway, I see myself running two in about a year or so.
Right now I'm happy the way things run, plus SLI-ing will snowball into also getting a new PSU and MOBO.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
yeah i've been looking at some 700W+ PSUs (i have 500W atm and while it's fine with 7600s it might stress with 8800s). unless you go with dodgy generic you're looking at £100 easily, which pushes the whole upgrade up to £460ish, which is half the cost of the entire PC as it stands
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
I have a £25 500w GPU and its fine, so... no.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
Apparently the 8800 GT is superb when it comes to power consumption. High-end systems that have benchmarked it have only reported about 150-200W consumption under heavy load. 500W is perfectly fine for it.seremtan wrote:yeah i've been looking at some 700W+ PSUs (i have 500W atm and while it's fine with 7600s it might stress with 8800s). unless you go with dodgy generic you're looking at £100 easily, which pushes the whole upgrade up to £460ish, which is half the cost of the entire PC as it stands
That being said my 600W is ready and waiting

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
I dropped £100 on a power pack due to my troubles with shitty cheap things after period of time. So far this thing is silent and i have not had one problem. The voltages are constant, nearly no flucuation at all

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
but you only have one GPUo'dium wrote:I have a £25 500w GPU and its fine, so... no.
and i think you mean PSU

This card is a bargain. Runs everything like a dream @ 1600x1200. Even Crysis with DX10 visual hack on DX9 (it struggles with AA in Crysis though, but I can live without it).

Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
just ordered one. but i don't feel i can really order crysis yet since i'm still on CoD4...
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
crysis is the only game that my current video card (7600gt) can't handle...I'll pass.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
I could go down to Filtech and grab the BFG 8800GT 512MB OC2 right now, but I'll wait for my EVGA SSC to arrive.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
an excellent plan, and one that you should tell everyone about at your earliest convenience
