Back from the dead.

Post by Hubster »

Hello all

My god it has been literally YEARS since I last trawled through here.

It's not by chance that I'm back, the release of Quake Live is one of the reasons I've resurfaced. My mapping skills are sure to be very rusty, but depending on time that may change.

Great to see this place is still active!

I guess that would depend on if and when they release the SDK.

Are they going to allow custom maps for QL?

It would be nice if there would be an annual competition for QL maps like we had one for Q4 years ago.

I figure the people over at id recognize what community maps can bring to the game, so if it's possible to release a SDK within a small budget (assuming QL is still non-profit), I guess they will... Otherwise... we're doomed!?

Holy crap. He lives. :)

If you want, I could poke around at the admin forum and see if you have an old account that can be resurrected?

All the old accounts are still there, just deactivated. We'll need his original account name and email (but not the email used to register the new account with otherwise it'll show up as a conflict).

You're going to have to PM either pjw or myself with your account info (see above).

I can't remember the source but I read somewhere that Quake Live won't support custom maps or mods.

Welcome back btw :D

Technically, it's still in beta and they are focusing more on getting the core systems working before they even consider 3rd party stuff which may open up a whole different can of worms for them. They've said that they won't be any maps or mods for QL right now, but they haven't written it off for the future, depending on how well everything works and how the community evolves.

It was hinted at that there indeed will be a mapping contest but that it probably would be a while.

I think aerowalk is great and all but we really need new some new maps. It's more then enough that dm6, t4 and dm13 are being recycled.

I don't think there is anything wrong with continually using the same map, assuming it is a great map. Imagine if they changed the "map" in basketball or chess!
