Railgun Glow... Black???

HI quakers

Well... recently i was messing with my baseq folder, adding some modifications to my quake 3, like Metal Tech, HD quake and stuff like that. The thing is, i did notice that the glow of the rail gun is ...black??, it only happens in third person or in enemys hand just like this http://fullygeek.com/wp-content/uploads ... ailgun.jpg , in first person it glows like always... i deleted all the external pk3, uninstalled my quake 3, cleaned my regitry of some ioquake configurations (if there was one), then i launched vainilla Q3, but again black, set ioquake again, but again... black...

maybe i never looked at it, and it was black all the time ... but i was sure that it glowed green like in quake live or like in this picture of the ...quake 3 railgun http://www.quake3world.com/info/weapons/railgun.jpg... but maybe my memory betrays me

sooo, if it was always like that, come and laugh with me , but if not, please give me a hand with this, maybe there is a console command for that, can't be a shader, i looked for some missing textures connecting to the railgun entries in the models.shader, from pak0 to my last pk3 in folder, and there are no error mesages of missing shaders in the console when the railgun comes to scene...

Quick check: move everything from your baseq3 folder that isn't pak[0-8].pk3 to somewhere else, config files included, and see if the problem persists. This sounds like a resource from a custom PK3 conflicting with a stock resource or possibly a misconfiguration.

The glow is black .. or actually turned off / taken out. It was originally on in the public demo but Id decided it was too much of an FPS hit to include it in the final version of the game at the time of release. So what you are seeing is correct.

Later on mods like corkscrew added the code back in and even allowed the glow to be the same colour as the one you choose for your rail-trail.

Tbth I've not looked at ioquake yet (I know me bad ), so maybe ^misantropia^ can confirm or not if it's on in there.

You may have disabled lightmap lighting (which means you are using vertex lighting). In vertex lighting, all shader effects are turned off, which includes the railgun glow.

Go to the video settings menu and enable lightmap lighting (if it's not on lightmap yet) and see if that helps.
