The Walking Dead

Post by brisk »

Anyone seen it yet? The pilot leaked the other day and I just saw it. It's a TV show about a zombie apocalypse, written + directed by Frank Darabont (Shawshank/Green Mile/The Mist etc) and it's based on a graphic novel series.

The pilot was great and although it uses pretty much every zombie device imaginable, it looks like it's going to be a great series. It's very violent too and the zombie effects look fantastic. More importantly, because it's by Darabont, you can be sure of good character development and a gritty exploration of the human condition. AMC is the network, so hopefully it'll remain uncensored (there are some VERY risque moments in the novel, apparently)

It starts officially on Halloween, but the leaked pilot quality is decent enough. Watch it people.

6 episodes for the first season. Assuming people actually watch it, word is there will be a 13 episode season 2 and so on.

In other words, if you're in the US, watch it!

6 episodes? Thats a little sad :( I know its a risky thing to do and all but 6 episodes is hardly enough time to get any decent character arcs or plot lines going. I was hoping for at least double that :(

Still, 6 episodes is better than 0 episodes.

I watched the leaked pilot and thought it was ok. Excellent zombie makeup.

However, right at the end they threw in a plot twist that pretty much makes the rest of the season quite predictible.

Looking forward to this, the graphic novel series was (is) excellent - and still ongoing aswell. Hopefully the tv series gets a bit of a following and it continues for a decent length of time!

Let me guess... One of the main cast was bitten, and has hidden it from the rest...?

No. The pro-ta-gon-ist is a cop and he's searching for his estranged wife and kid, who - unbeknownst to him - are safe with his police partner (who is playing sucky face with his wife). That means that it's more than obvious that the main character will no doubt survive every setback in every episode and eventually find his wife, kid and partner. Then some pointless "drama" will ensue between the main guy and his police partner/wife/kid while they fight off the zombie hoarde, with the main guy's partner ultimately sacrificing himself to save the main guy and his estranged wife just before their kid gets bitten....or sumthin.

[gramps]I'll bet $1000 right now on this. [/gramps]

Haha, well considering that the main protagonist meets up with his family and that group of survivors in the 2nd comic in the series, I sure hope that's not the "rest of the season" or there'll have been WAY too much plot dragging :)

(literally second issue of the comic, not even "book 2" of the collected graphic novelisation)

Hopefully it'll become its own thing and not rely 100% on the comic. The ending to "The Mist" pretty much nails the fact that Frank doesn't always stick to the source material, heh.

My eyes have missed looking at Prison Break girl too :D

Sorry to bump this.

Is anyone watching this show?
I've just got through Episode 2, the aptly titled 'Guts'. Is George Romero onboard as an Executive or something because that episode ripped great chunks out of Dawn of the Dead.. I'm enjoying it but as GONNAFISTYA said it's definately predicable.

The first episode surprised me with its production quality and gore level. The story twist GFY mentioned annoyed me a bit too (soon as she came on screen I said, oh hey it's the main dude's wife). Looking forward to the second ep tonight.

Hopefully they'll get the obvious zombie cliches out of the way and concentrate on exploring the characters a little more over the coming season (and into the next one hopefully)

The pace seems pretty fast at least and it's good, silly zombie fun.

I just hope they're brave enough to do the while Governor / Michonne thing with minimal censorship. That's some fucked-up shit right there.
And Michonne, if cast properly, has the potential to be one of the best TV Sci-fi / Horror characters ever. Same goes for the Governor, and I hope to baby Jeebus they get Tom Savini to play him. That'd just be plain awesome :D

The Walking Dead has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more Adults 18 to 49 than any other show in the history of cable television.
Wow that's pretty awesome :D
