"We have a bicubic-upsample+detail texture option for the next PC patch that will help alleviate the blurry textures in Rage." -- Carmack's Twitter.
How much difference might this make?

This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost
Re: More Rage
It could make for a big improvement.
diffuse texture + detail texture = result

bicubic

Re: More Rage
IMHO it has fantastic graphics, every piece of the world has looks different. Its a sad thing that there is no high res textures available yet. I hope for a extra DLC with high res textures and world geometry + if its even possible for the id tech5 engine, enable certain world physics. That I really missed.
I suppose there map compiler - renderfarm - can bake (compress) the world at various levels.. The current seems to be same as on the console. So I also suppose there is not every technique used for the textures.
Maybe they should contact Google, and ask them to stream Rage, just like they stream maps.. Since probably almost no one will have a close look on every texture ?
Can't wait for games being made with this engine, just to have a look on the unique world created..

Re: More Rage
The community saved this game.
Honestly how did this get out the door of idsoftwares office for release to the world.

Re: More Rage
I'm so fucking tired of invisible walls. Really takes me out of the game.
I love quake!
Re: More Rage
Bitwise, detail texturing is so the past, and looks like shit.
Detail normal mapping, now THATS half decent.

Re: More Rage
this game has some awesome gameplay settings and some genuine kodak worthy moments in motion... too bad they are all empty inside.
Re: More Rage
Finally have the game running as best as can be expected before all the Ofiicial fixes are in. The low res texture popping though is such a huge disappointment considering how long I have been looking forward to the day i start the game.
Sadly on my first start everything was Purple and unplayable, after a few hours I was able to make it out of the first room.
So far however I am having fun in the game although my already heavy gambling addiction is renewed with a Rage mini-game.
Love driving, shooting but not dying.
The defrib thingymabob is just stupid.
Fat chance iI will pay for a DLC , PC owners are due for some reward for saving their asses from a complete disaster by using Fan based fixes.
Sadly i also find the game FUGLY as Fuck, not look in the mirror FUGLY either.
twice more FUGLY then that.

Re: More Rage
I'm quite enjoying it now that I've got it running at a decent framerate.
vsync keeps disabling itself when I alt-tab to desktop though.
Not sure why but I blame ax.

Re: More Rage
There are games which have no inner life wherever one looks for it, being nothing but masks. That man is to be pitied who lets himself in with such ghostly, necessarily unsatisfying things; but just these games are able to stimulate man`s desire most intensely: he searches for their souls --and searches evermore.
I love quake!
Re: More Rage
cry some more!

Re: More Rage
yet games like Deus Ex are awesome allround regardless of platform.

Yeah, that seems to work. It does still turn itself off ingame after alt-tabbing, but no visible tearing now.
Re: More Rage
Check the game-profile for Rage. Nvidia retards set the default to "always off"

Re: More Rage
k now that I have a few good hours put in this thing over the weekend, here are my thoughts on Rage.
Graphics:
the textures could be better close up, yes, but on my GTX 460 and 4gigs of ram and an AMD quad the game really doesn't look bad in motion and it's solid smooth. no issues with texture tearing or anything funky at all really. The more i play it the more I realize, this game is pretty solid in respects to bugs as well.
It has some gorgeous artistic touches on every mold/blood/grime stained surface, and the architecture is amazing. which brings me to my next point that kinda paves the way to my next issue:
Player movement speed:
the player movement is too fast! yes this is an id fps game but come on, I feel like they should either have a "walk" function or should have slowed the player's movement down a little.
Unlike other similar games, you simply cannot get it all in and enjoy the surroundings when moving around at 30 miles an our. Even crouching can't do it justice...still too fast. It really takes away from any atmosphere that they so painstakingly created, and criminally robs you of the opportunity to take it all in, when not in the middle of a gun fight. I feel that was a huge oversight. I rarely get the urge to take screenshots in games, and I felt like I wish I had a camera with me all the time in this game just to capture some of the phenomenal compositions that surrounded me. But simply standing still doesn't do all the subtle texture/lighting interactions, justice...it has to be in motion to be truly appreciated, and the motion is simply too fast as it is.
Game too easy:
ironically , I find that the game is so easy, simply because it has such fast, fluent and accurate movement/ gunplay on par with quality multiplayers like Quake 3. Never before in a game like this have I felt so comfortable in my player's skin. The player movement is so good, I felt like I was playing quake3, and these "for console" enemies never had a chance! Sadly, the developers didn't even have the balls to atleast make the highest difficult setting worthy of a PC gamer, probably not to hurt the delicate feelings of console faggots that want to max a game out on all accounts. God forbid, the hardests setting is a little too hard for a game controller
I keep thinking how Half Life 2, Fallout 3 or DE:Human Revolution would look like, wrapped around this amazing engine and its hand crafted approach. I really hope someone with time and money picks up id tech 5 and make it their bitch sometime in the near future

Re: More Rage
I felt the speed was not exactly too fast- but simply unsuited for a game like Rage which mostly occurs in cramped, heavily clipped roombox-to-roombox shooting areas. There's no reason to be able to straffle (and you can) in this game because there's never anywhere you need to go that quickly.
It sure is easy, whenever I fought mutants I'd just go back into a corner and pistol-whip them as they came in. When you use the mouse and keyboard you really just run rings around the enemies.
Something that also contributes to making the game feel ultimately hollow is the way they cut corners in the gameplay/story dept, so it just feels like a COD bunker mission tacked onto another bunker mission. For example, the message board missions just have you immediately travel to an area and stick you up on a terrace using magic. It would be 10x more interesting if they had you leave the base with them (they could make you leave your car in the garage) travel there, get out, then find your own vantage point to cover them. Anything except cutting corners and just putting you in a retarded box.

Re: More Rage
agreed on the job board silliness. All in all, this was an id game, I never once expected any wonderful gameplay surprises around the corner and I didn't receive any.
Re: More Rage
never played it, but it looks like 20 years old in youtube videos
