The Wire. This I didn't know...
Re: The Wire. This I didn't know...
It's even deeper than that, the attention to detail in The Wire is amazing.
The majority of the characters are based on real Baltimore figures, but there's loads of little details, too.. Such as the scene where Omar is in the court room waiting to testify, and the clerk is trying to get a crossword puzzle. The answer to the crossword puzzle is is the Greek god of war, 'Ares'. That was put in there because apparently, kids from Baltimore projects love the greek myth classes in school, and many have a peculiarly decent knowledge of them, even though many leave school barely being able to read or write.
Loads of little details like that are all over the series.
Best show ever.

It's dull. Only criminals like it.

I pretty much judge people based on how much they liked The Wire.
My system continues to prove infallible.

I'm pretty obsessed with the Wire. I've watched the whole thing through like 7 times.

I rate The Wire ahead of BB and Deadwood but they are close, which is saying something.

Luther is up there as well, but people in the US might now have heard of it.
It has Stringer Bell as a cop, and the final two episodes of season 1 are arguably the two singular best pieces of television ever made.

I found out about this from the wikipedia page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wire#RealismWikipedia wrote: In December 2006, The Washington Post carried an article in which local African-American students stated that the show had "hit a nerve" with the black community, and that they themselves knew real-life counterparts of many of the characters.
