So time for a new v-card

Post by Tsakali »

K first off, the only reason I am upgrading is because my card crapped out.
And wtf is this? the nvidia GTI 460 that I got about 2 years ago, not only is it hard to find, but any successors atleast as good at it is the 560 (i guess) but it's like 200 bucks... exactly what I payed for my 460 ...WTF?

there is a 550 for $130 but from what I understand not only is it not better, it might actually be worse.

SO wtf am I missing something? I figured by now, I would be able to atleast replace my old 460 with something 60-70 bucks cheaper but comparable...but this is not the case at all.

K so for the same old price of $200 I can get a 560... but is it really "better" than the 460? 2 years down the line, and I'm basically looking at the same options? wtf happened to this market?

So in the mist of all that, do you actually have a question about a recommendation or are you just ranting? I'm seriously asking.

I went for the 670 recently. Cheap enough and just a smidge below the 680 performance wise. Hasn't ran a single game with a hitch so far, and thats with max everything, monster res and AA. Loving it.

Because the days of freeloading on Moore's Law are ending. We no longer gain exponential performance increases by simply cramming more transistors into the CPU. The transition to parallel processing requires software to leverage the increasing power of the devices instead of just providing more speed for everything. I believe Carmack said something along the lines of providing the same graphics boost that we're used to from the past, now requires a significant increase in hardware. Combine this with the console market dictating the amount of effort spent on graphics technology and this isn't all that surprising.

According to Tom's Hardware, the 560 Ti is at least 3 tiers above your current card. You'll only get a handful of FPS better performance out of it though...

Get a 560 Ti, shut up and pay the $200 you cheap cunt...it's definitely worth the upgrade.

I had a Zotac 460 and grabbed a Zotac 560 Ti (and paid $300 you crying wench) and they're like comparing night and day.

Option 1: looking for something comparable to my 460 or better for about $150

right, so that's what I'm looking at right now. It just sucks that essentially I am paying 200 bucks to replace what I already had. I could care less about extra performance since my 460 was taking care of business. Didn't want to upgrade card till PC was cool again , read: (when new consoles force better quality products)

When I got my first Zotac 460 it was a lemon. I replaced it and it was good after that. No problems at all with my 560...not even noise.

You prolly got a lemon. Shit happens.

Mine's a Zotac. It's noisy, hot, the bios is cooked-in and it's shit. Never again.
mine was a zotac, and for the reasons you mentioned it finally burned out and I am now sporting a shitty backup card.

XFX (not EVGA) are cunty with their warranties outside the USA, know they say 2 years when in reality you're lucky if you get 1, sapphire, asus and MSI tend to be pretty good and usually give out 2/3 years on their cards.

I sound like I'm in the minority n all but get a 7850, have no more driver issues than nvidia anymore and getting a newer generation card that can match / exceed the 560 and gives you plenty of room if you fancy overclocking, can get 7950/580 speeds easily by just using something like the asus GPU tool that works with any manufacture (runs a lot cooler also)

EVGA offer the absolute best warranty and RMA with their products.

I successfully RMA'd my EVGA GTX 580 twice, so I have no issues with their service or turnaround. My previous card was an MSI GTX470 with the Twin Frozr II cooler. If you can find an MSI 670 Twin Frozr III, get it asap. They're mint.

If you're in the US I hear you're laughing, there's a shed load of complaints about them in the UK (XFX not EVGA ;) ) and Europe though especially if it's past the 1 year RTB, had a mate run into a similar problem and ended up shelling out for a new card. Shame cos I was considering giving them a shot.

I'm in Canada, which happens to be outside of US. You should take a look at their EU policy next time and know exactly what you're getting: http://eu.evga.com/support/warranty/

I did, that's new :), their warranties were vague, lifetime warranty only meant 2 years, the problem is XFX (not EVGA) were requesting proof that the card was bricked due to a manufacturing fault after the first 6 months, also if you didn't register yous be fucked

So they've either cleaned up their act or found a new format of vague

That was probaly my fault en, I think I mightve had problems with proof of purchase, or was asking for full refund, fark knows. No idea why I got them 2 mixed up though, have heard nothing but good things about EVGA

I do need someone to tell me I'm wrong about the 7850 though, everyone here seems to be saying the 560 (same route memphs taking) and I've got a purchase coming up soon :/

I don't want to have to troubleshoot my vcard..that's why I want nvidia. I never got anything else, and not about to start now without a damn good reason.

My Zotac's have been running great, Two 460's for a little over a year and a half.

Idle at ~20C and load around ~40C helps... :)
