Guardian:
A masked gunman shot 10 people dead and wounded 30 to 40 others at a showing of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises at a cinema in the US city of Denver, local radio station KOA reported on Friday, citing witnesses.
The radio station said a figure in a gas mask had opened fire at the showing in a mall in the suburb of Aurora and set off a smoke or teargas bomb. It said initial police estimates were of 30-40 injured.

I think even in CO people think sitting in a movie strapped is probably a little much...haha the glove boxes in the pickups in the parking lot I'm sure were a different story. Also, it was the dark knight, not a Charlton Heston movie....demographics probably had something to do with it.
It can even be argued further whether or not some yahoo engaging the crazy guy in a shoot out in a public setting with lots of hysteria and confusion would have been the best course of action. I take it you have a weapon or have done some shooting? so you know that as someone with the firearm, you're accountable for every round. It's very likely you don't even get a clear visual of the guy with everyone running around, firing rounds into the direction of the public is a very bad idea unless you're absolutely positive you know where they're going.

Absolutely there are situations that I would never engage an armed assailant. A hold up at a bank is a good example. And yes, you're accountable for your rounds. As Bit said, it may not have even been an option for some, but there certainly were others that were not immediately affected by the gas.
Am I saying everyone should be packing? Of course not, but the blame on guns is forthcoming.
