But gun violence in less privileged countries always seemed to have a point. They'll kill for religious, racial, politica , economical reasons. And more often the case being money, their crimes have reasons you can take to the bank...literally. Not just some over privileged fucker off his rocker.[/quote]

The vast majority of gun violence in the US is for these same reasons. Very few incidents are like the one in Colorado, the media just has a field day with them so it seems that they're the norm. They're not, nor are murders committed with rifles of any type, including "assault" weapons.

Apparently he sent a notebook to a psychiatrist, full of details about how he was going to kill all these people. But the package sat there unopened for days before the attack.

I've been thinking about this. At 10:00pm he set a song on repeat at his apartment, turned it up really loud, left the door cracked, and then left to go do his killing. My guess would be his plan was for someone to go up there and open the door to tell him to turn down the music, the place would blow, and a ton of cops would be dispatched to the scene. So while he does his killing at the theater, he wouldn't be bothered by cops. That would explain why they said he was so surprised to see the cops there when they arrested him. I'd even bet he was planning on going to other theaters in the area when he got done there. After all, he wasn't staying and shooting up the place and fighting the cops. They arrested him while he was taking his vest off and getting in his car.

Make sense to me...

Yes, his plan was that the noise complaint would bring the police and the building would blow, that was reported. I didn't see anything about a notebook though.

Ok...so let me see if I understand your post correctly...

You're trying to take credit for coming up with a "theory" regarding the reasons he booby-trapped his apartment: to create a diversion...when it's been previously reported that your "theory" is exactly why he booby-trapped his apartment: to create a diversion. It was even reported in the link you yourself just provided (lol...Fox News no less).

What a total douchebag.

I'm willing to bet "xer0s the thinker" probably doesn't even remember where he read/heard/saw his "theory" and - like every other opinion he's ever claimed to have had - assumed it was his own. :olo:

I never claimed the theory as my own. I'm sure most people assumed that was his plan.

You'll jump on anything I say. It's funny...

Nightshade, the reason people frown upon gun violence in the US is that compared to other 1st world countries, gun violence is excesssive in the US. Sure, there's guns and violence in Africa as well, but almost exclusively in war torn areas. You'd just expect it from those regions.

I understand why people hold the perceptions they do about gun violence in the US. They just don't make sense to me. I think they're a function of media hype more than real numbers, especially when you compare the number of gun crimes against the number of legally owned guns.

I'd venture to say that there's gun violence in areas in Africa that aren't strictly "war-torn", but there's also Mexico, Colombia, lots of other countries.

My point remains. The US is not only a 1st world country, it wants to be examplary to others. It is one of the most important and influential countries in the world. The US wants to be something other countries aspire to be as well. Such high gun crime numbers just do not fit the image the US wants to portray of itself. The worst thing is that most US citizens and politicians act like there is no such problem.

Countries like Mexico or other Latin American states or African states.... they are scumbag states, 3rd world countries or close to being a 3rd world country. The gun violence there isn't Ok, but it's a whole different thing.

Also, pro-gun people keep saying guns dont kill people, people kill people. Well, maybe the American people aren't responsible enough for having such loose gun control. Sure, the guns aren't the problem, the people are. But since we can't take away the people and taking away the guns is (technically) not very hard, the choice and solution isn't very hard (if it weren't for the redneck gun hardliners)

Uh, not really sure where you're getting this from. Not only do I think you're starting to talk about what the government think and says to other countries, it still doesn't seem relevant to the point I'm trying to make.
Eraser wrote: The worst thing is that most US citizens and politicians act like there is no such problem.
You don't know "most" US citizens or politicians, please don't generalize. I don't think that you'd be able to find anyone that thinks that there isn't at least some form of issue relating to gun violence in the US that needs to be addressed. Be it the fact that it's criminals using illegal firearms to commit murders or the availability of certain types of weapons (note that I don't think the latter is a problem), I think that if you were to ask 100 people, 95 of them would say that something needs to change.
Eraser wrote: Countries like Mexico or other Latin American states or African states.... they are scumbag states
Um, did you really just say this? I mean, I think I get what you're saying, but ffs dude. :olo:

I think you're partially correct, some people shouldn't have guns. The problem is determining who those folks are. Taking away the guns from legal gun owners wouldn't be that hard, but they're not the problem. The VAST majority of people that commit crimes with guns don't get them legally. That's why most gun control laws are useless and stupid, and the Aurora shootings prove that. The Constitution says that it's my inalienable right to own firearms to protect myself and my family against harm and government tyranny. Why should I have to give that up because a VERY small percentage of people are fucking idiots and don't deserve the privilege?
