Here are some fun, modern ways to play it.

Brutal DOOM (just watch; you'll want to download it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTWP3wvAUuQ

ZDaemon (multiplayer): http://ZDaemon.org

RTC-3057 (great single-player episode; used with zdoom command line "-file 3057hub1.wad"): http://www.nautrup.com/3057/download.html

Indeed - thought SS3 is still quite fun, just not as fun as the first 2

It looked cool at first, but too much of it reminds me of the type of CoD/MoH shit that I hate about modern FPS games.

It's a bit like taking Beethoven's Symphony #9, having the conductor tweak and tune the orchestra just a bit until it's absolutely perfect. Then deciding, no... it needs a little more "umph" and remixing it with Gangnam Style.

I agree. There is no reason at all for iron sights in a mod that seems to aim (pun hurrr) to increase the visceral, fast-paced carnage of its base game. As for reloading, while I would prefer that it wasn't there in this game, I suppose it makes some situations more tense and exciting.

Cool DOOM mod news on the horizon:

DOOM:ONE is in open beta, if you didn't know. It's DOOM Episode 1, as one giant level, with some new content and the SSG, and some pretty decent live-band renditions of the game's classic soundtrack. I played through the beta a couple of days ago using GZDoom, with a high-res texture pack and Brutal DOOM and it was great.

DOOM:ONE -- http://www.moddb.com/mods/doomone/downl ... -open-beta
(load GZDoom with -file doomone.wad in the shortcut command line)

High resolution textures for multiple ports -- http://dhtp.freelanzer.com/?page_id=17
(load with the file command, as well)

Finally, a new release (and final version until next spring) of Brutal Doom is coming out this week! :) Scroll up for a taste of what this mod is like.

The new Brutal is out today.

I highly recommend playing with the metal soundtrack mod. Some of the tracks are extremely well-done. It's apparently by the dude that did the new Rise of the Triad soundtrack.
