Too big to go to jail

Post by Ryoki »

For at least half a decade, the storied British colonial banking power helped to wash hundreds of millions of dollars for drug mobs, including Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel, suspected in tens of thousands of murders just in the past 10 years – people so totally evil, jokes former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, that "they make the guys on Wall Street look good." The bank also moved money for organizations linked to Al Qaeda and Hezbollah, and for Russian gangsters; helped countries like Iran, the Sudan and North Korea evade sanctions; and, in between helping murderers and terrorists and rogue states, aided countless common tax cheats in hiding their cash.

"They violated every goddamn law in the book," says Jack Blum, an attorney and former Senate investigator who headed a major bribery investigation against Lockheed in the 1970s that led to the passage of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. "They took every imaginable form of illegal and illicit business."

Yeah, except it’s not really corruption at all, it goes a lot further than that. This is the kind of crime that would land regular folk in jail for a long, long time… probably that one really famous jail that’s in Cuba. Instead they got away with it completely, all they got was a fine that equalled about 5 weeks profit.

Anyway, read the article. It’s a truly disturbing tale and it will fill you with righteous anger

One could get quite angry about shit like this.
Time to start rioting, French revolution style. Bring forth the guillotine and all that.
Not gonna happen though. Can't remember a public outcry over injustice the last 20 years.
We've been desensitized, and lulled into a state of apathy, boiling frog style

"Had the U.S. authorities decided to press criminal charges," said Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer at a press conference to announce the settlement, "HSBC would almost certainly have lost its banking license in the U.S., the future of the institution would have been under threat and the entire banking system would have been destabilized."
Holy fuck. Why didn't Christopher Dorner go after these assholes?

FFS, I hope you're just being sarcastic. That sounds like serious tea-party mentality. Angry mobs destroying things, killing people, disregard for law, etc. isn't going to make things right.

feedback just asserted that it was Dorner's mentally unhinged state that prevented him to from going after the board of directors of HSBC, implying that had he been sane and thinking clearly, he would have executed every last motherfucking one them

Well, exaggerating a bit to get the point across.

I am genuinely frustrated by the apparent inability or unwillingness of people (myself included, you won't see me going into politics) to change shit that isn't right.
It's a generalisation and may sound a bit naive, pathetic even, but there you have it.

Anyway, the whole sheeple rant.
