Is there anyone here at the forum who has used CODradiant (e.g. COD WAW (cod5))? The next question would be how advanced is the feature set? And could the editor possibly be used to create Q3A maps?
My recent edits painfully reminded me what huge issues GTKradiant 1.6.4 still has when trying to fit textures and then rotate/mirror them, or detailed vertex editing leading to invalid brushes.
We had a discussion on hierarchical instancing... that would be neat if it worked for Q3A... I suspect not. But simply a set of possibly more advanced brush-related tools would be interesting enough.
CODradiant and Q3A?
Re: CODradiant and Q3A?
CoDRadiant is quite specialized so I doubt much of its feature set would be compatible with Q3 even with a whole bunch of importing/exporting. Q3 editing and tools development has diminished significantly from the old days despite occasional spikes in activity (during LD contests/when some of the programmers decide to wake up from hibernation and fix something for the editor).
New features would certainly be cool, but it involves a huge amount of programming work in contrast to a limited benefit to a smaller user base. Sadly, the cost/benefit ratio just isn't there anymore. Not saying that we shouldn't be hopeful that there are those who are willing to poke it along a little more as there has always been from time-to-time, but it would require quite a commitment which is hard to find.
The GtkRadiant source code is on GitHub, so really anyone can fork it, make changes, and submit a pull request. We just need someone willing to do the work.
