The Hobbit 3 - 7/10

Great visuals but horribly written. This movie jumps the shark again and again in both blatantly obvious and subtle ways.

Under the Skin - 9/10

The movie sucked me in from start to finish.

Hobbit movies are all boring to me. What's the point when the bigger, better story has already been told? I didn't care about anyone in the Hobbit films.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but after 10 mins or so, it doesn't feel odd anymore. It's awesome to see the quick panning motions of the camera being sharp. Sometimes it causes a bit of a visual overload because there's so much information for your eyes to take it, but I like it.

I watched all three of them like I was in a rollercoaster ride. The visuals are hugely impressive, especially in the HFR versions. The story wasn't of any importance to me.

I wasn't impressed by the visuals much, though the appearance by sauron in the 3rd hobbit movie was a stand-out. I found the original LOTR movies had much higher quality effects, though it could just be I've become more jaded by in the years since CGI.

It might be the higher resolution; It might be the lesser use of non-CG effects - I also found the visuals at certain points to be worse than in LOTR.

Fury 1/10
What a joke...filled to the brim with every predictable war movie cliché right to the last battle where Brad Pitt single handedly took out an entire regiment of uber elite SS. Whoever gave this a 10..fu for wasting my time.

Well, Braindead and The Frighteners are pretty cool too :)

Personally, I didn't like the Lord of the Rings movies, and have no desire to see him mutilate The Hobbit.

But then, I was never a massive fan of the books. Too padded with extraneous bullshit.
That and I was reading Conan books at the same time as a kid, and Conan didn't needlessly fuck about detailing the thousand year family lineage of incidental characters.

The Frighteners is excellent

meant to be set in an American suburb but if you're familiar with NZ, it so blatantly isn't

The Imitation Game - 7.5/10
The acting is amazing all around... even Keira Knightley did well, though I still say she looks like a reanimated skeleton. I wanted more code-breaking and less social commentary. It was kinda like Brokeback MI6 or something. Good, just not really what I was hoping for.
Then again, it's the first film I've seen in the theater since the Ender's Game debacle of 2013, so it had that going for it.

Wait, weren't you a Song of Ice and Fire fan? There's lots of that sort of stuff in there as well.
Or am I mistaking you for someone else?

Birdman 8/10 -Really good movie about actors, with some great performances including Michael Keaton (kinda the whole point).

It reminded me of an excellent film with some similarities, Day For Night by Francois Truffault. I'd recommend both.

Been wanting to see Birdman. Keaton is one of my favorites and he hasn't been doing much in recent years.

Just hope they don't fuck up Beetlejuice 2...

I just watched Birdman, I liked it a lot but...

I wasn't quite sure what to make of the end, you think maybe the director fucked up a bit and wanted both a happy and sad ending ?. I hate films that close off with an ambiguous story >:E, I find it lazy rather than good writing.

But yea, the performances were great, always a fan of Keaton and the crazy unsatisfied ego trip was portrayed great :D

Saw this yesterday. Excellent movie IMO.
Benedict Cumberbatch played and suited the role perfectly with Keira Knightley doing well in support. The rest of the cast, again played their parts very well.

In a word, nice.

See it! 8/10

Babadook - 7.5/10

Excellent psycho-thriller for a low-budget Aussie film.

Predestination - 8/10

Much like with the Babadook (I hate that boy. Yeah, 7.5) you can't really talk about the plot without spoiling everything. It's about time travel, and a great mindfuck.
Great performances, good cinematography. Spierig Brothers... hmm.

Predestination was a solid 7/10 for me, plot started off slow but got better as it went along.

Fury (2014) - 8/10

Really good. The movie was slightly let down by the way its finale was shot, but overall the message wasn't lost and the film was still excellent.

American Sniper

It was good but not terribly interesting to watch. The subject matter is extremely interesting, but if you compare it to something like Letters from Iwo Jima, it just doesn't approach it. Still good, though.

Lucy - stupid/10 - trailer promised a Matrix/Inception-style revenge story; movie actually delivered 80% pop-philosophy bollocks and pseudoscience and only 20% action, suggesting that it is indeed true that, at the very least, the film's writers only used 10% of their brains

shit like is why i don't go to the movies any more :disgust:
