drift that shit
haha im by no means one of those initial d wannabes. i'm not out there trying to perfect my line and throttle control. i just go out to drive for fun so i never push myself to the limits.c0ld wrote:hmm thats cool, just keep in mind public back roads are NOT a good place to learn the handling characteristics and capabilities of a car nor is it a remotely good idea to be passively pushing the limits anyway. Something to keep in mind when you get too caught in the momment of excitment is that there is a very good reason rally drivers have full on rollcages, fireproof suits, helmets, a thousand and one other safety equipment bits and onsite paramedics with an ambulance/helicopter.Grandpa Stu wrote:lucky me i live about 5 minutes away from mountainous back roads that are fun as hell. it's a good place to spot sports cars during the day and during the night hours you'll run accross the occasional spirited driver such as myself.
last night was my first run around the roads with the rear sway...shit what a difference it makes! i went ass out on the first S-Curve and nearly shit myself haha. im slower now though as i have to relearn the handling a bit
Not that I'm against responsible spirited driving in anyway.. but holy hell as of late there are just far too many wannabe mad tyte touge ricers up there trying to play Initial D/fast'n'furious games who think that since they saw something on a cartoon/movie that they feel justified to use a public backroad as their own little racetrack. Lord knows darwin is working overtime thanks to this uprise in the states.
Anway, be careful on your spirited drives. Have you ever considered attending an autocross or trackday type event? Those are the best events to learn a vehicles dynamics from do to not only the safe and controlled environment but also being able to talk to other experienced drivers in your area. An autocross driving school( such as the Evolution Performance Driving School) or to a lesser extent(but still very valuable and FUN(and affordable!) an Drivers Edge type event at your local race course are GREAT as well and highly recommended.
What tires do you run? Have you altered any of the alignment settings on your suspension from factory specs?
one of my friends on the otherhand...i've seen him crash 4 different cars now and he still hasnt learned his lesson.
the driving schools interest me, the price however, doesn't. i have taken the skid-car course at PIR and i learned A LOT as far as learning to control/handle a car when it loses traction.
as far as my tires go i'm running some EVO Zs and i love them. they're great for the rain, which we got a lot of hear, and are fairly grippy when conditions are dry. i havnt touched anything else as for as handling/suspension goes and i dont plan to either. im not out racing around a track and i RARELY RARELY RARELY push my car hard enough to even see any advantage in doing such things. this is still my daily driver too so i dont want a stiff suspension setup i'll have to suffer with during the 90% of time im not really using it.
Hmm, lot more hyundais than last time we did this thread.
I drive a 2003 Hyundai Accent.

I was hit again last week. So far, I've been hit once a year for every year I've had the car. I think its a sign to change. Las Vegas drivers are ridiculous.
Car is a perfect commuter though. :icon34:

I was testing myself a bit since I'm still pretty new to driving and almost lost it on a dirt road yesterday. It was wet and there was loads of mud and my tyre tread was getting a bit low. Sliding sideways at 60 is disconcerting, even for just a second.
It's good to learn the limits somewhere where the only life you could fuck up is your own.

Man, last weekend was one of the scariest times I've had while driving (and I've been in a few very minor accidents). I was driving my friend up to an amusement part and we had gotten stuck behind a semi-truck that was going pretty slow. I poked my head around the side and it was empty. Put my car into auto-stick mode, dropped the car into second gear, and poked my head out again. It was still clear for what I thought was a safe distance so I jump on the gas and immeadiately accelerate since I'm running at about 4000 RPMs in second gear. I shift up into third just below the redline and keep accelerating. Out of nowhere there is a Jeep Cherokee coming at me, and FAST. Oh fuck...I'm not going to make it. Oh fuck,Oh fuck,Oh fuck...I'm giving it all she has. The Jeep sees me an flips out, getting on the breaks hard enough to send the ass-end of his car out slightly. Now I'm like inches in front of the semi and I pull back over into my lane, somehow avoiding both vehicles. Either that section of road shouldn't have had slashed lines or the guy in the Jeep was going way to fast but luckily the guy in the Jeep backed off because there was nothing I could do at that point save myself except keep accelerating. If I had slow down and jump in behind the semi, the semi behind him would have wtfpwnt me.Foo wrote:I was testing myself a bit since I'm still pretty new to driving and almost lost it on a dirt road yesterday. Heh I hate those moments. I was following a friend home a few weeks ago, down a nice straight road, doing 80 ish at points but nothing too fast for the road (it's open country, just wide long roads). I came to the turning (where the 1.53 mi is) where I was turning right. At this ponit I was doing 40, having plenty of time to brake I tapped them lightly and the wheels just locked on the mud which was over the road (damn farmers), skidding with minimal brake preasure is quite scary. As I don't have ABS it was cadence braking for the win :icon14:
