Depends on what industry you're in, the degree of involvement sounded a little much comparatively.

Carry on.

You, sir, are the one who is incorrect. Just today, I went down and had my car smogged. It passed emissions in a better than average way. They denied me my certificate - which is required by government - because an indicator light said my vehicle needed a tune up. All of the sensors built into cars, these days, are dictated by the government. Like big brother saying to brush yer teeth in a rapid vertical motion. :smirk: You have to purchase a car that fits a government standard. i.e. the auto companies have to obey the government or they cannot sell cars. That's dictation.
yeah, no... Dictating their business would be telling them what cars to make and how many to make.
what you're describing is influence by regulation.
if all companies in an entire industry get told that they can only pollute the atmosphere to a certain degree and that they need to have emissions sensors on the car to ensure compliance. That is not dictating business. They aren't telling a manufacturer how to implement the system or what supplier to buy a specific sensor from.
Influence is also exerted industry wide. Imported vehicles still have to comply with stability control and tire pressure monitoring safety regulation if they want to sell them to Americans.

ok comrade; just remember this all started because I was against the idea of government dictating the business model of private companies.
