There usage makes some kind of sense in this context since the zombies certainly have no compunctions against attacking and eating a creature(human,etc) that's still living.
With that in mind the name makes as much sense as "roamers" which is also a lousy name for the zombies.

in the comics, the term 'roamers' is used to differentiate zombies that move around from 'lurkers', zombies that don't.
sad to see the news about the budget getting stomped. haven't been a big fan of the tv show so far (moves too slowly even for a slow-paced show imo, and the entirely new material in the last couple of episodes was lame) but love the comics - not looking forward to reading the letters page/editorial in the next issue.

I think AMC pretty much wrote the show's death warrant.
People who were enthused by the first season (like me) will now obsess about finding faults due to the lower budget.
