Re: The Election Thread
lol Star Trek's entire concept of the future is the most non-Republican thing there is: One-world government, no free market capitalism, aliens of all colours moving around freely without getting checked for ID (who the fuck knows if that blue guy over there is legal) and - gasp! - getting rid of poverty. Not to mention the rampant socialism on display. Have you ever seen anyone pay for a drink or dinner or anything? Replicators make anything you want for free! Copy with impunity! The RIAA and supporters of DRM probably shit their pants and killed themselves when that law passed.
Buncha fuckin communists in the future.

Re: The Election Thread
They probably just auto-pay with RFID chips implanted in their heads. The RIAA also uses them to deduct 10 cents from your bank account every time you hear a song, no matter what the source. Goodbye piracy!GONNAFISTYA wrote:Have you ever seen anyone pay for a drink or dinner or anything? Replicators make anything you want for free! Copy with impunity! Re: The Election Thread
in all seriousness, if they can manifest food out of pure energy, and said energy comes by very cheaply (read: solar, thermal, whatever) then why the hell not!

Re: The Election Thread
Well if that's the case then Captain Picard and several other senior officers will probably get sued into the 25th century. How many times have they left technology (fuckin PRODUCT bitch!!) behind to "help" the locals (moochin bastards) in the form of replicators, medical supplies and God knows what else? And not one billing invoice filed. I can guarantee that Pfizer will want compensation for all that shit that Janeway left on the other side of the galaxy. Helping a bi-pedal species cure it's most deadly diseases? Fuck you! Where's my money, bitch!Psyche911 wrote:They probably just auto-pay with RFID chips implanted in their heads. Oh and just to clarify: The RIAA and supporters of DRM probably shit their pants after they killed themselves. Leakage and all. My bad.

Re: The Election Thread
GOP votes to put a "human life amendment" in their party platform, including an abortion ban with no exception for rape or incest.
so much for small government

Re: The Election Thread
lol I was just gonna say that doesn't the "human life amendment" ban all war? Yeah...it is pretty insane to think that an anti-abortion nutter would be against war and killing fellow human beings. Makes perfect sense.seremtan wrote:bit late for those 1/2 million iraqi kids who died of sanctions in the 90s

I honestly believe those morons have no idea why they're against abortion, they just are.
Re: The Election Thread
I find it strange that Obama hasn't done an interview with the press core for nearly nine weeks, but he went on Entertainment Tonight and talked about his bromance with George Clooney...

Re: The Election Thread
Yes, it's strange that the guy trying to run the country and fix 10,000 problems isn't spending his days doing interviews.
You don't have to make up reasons to hate him. It's not like you're gonna vote for him anyways. Just go cast your Republican vote for Romney and get it over with.

Re: The Election Thread
I was simply saying, if he's going to do an interview, why not do one where they'll ask him about Iran, the economy, or Medicare? But instead he's on ET getting asked what his favorite Mexican food dish is...
But I guess I'm a moron again. Sorry I spoke, GFY...

Re: The Election Thread
No, you're right. The interview was fucking useless. Your media has failed you.
Have a read of this article and get angry.
My opinion overall is that President's, Prime Ministers, etc should never be doing interviews. Ever. The first reason is because it turns (and has turned) politicians into celebrities, instead of civil servants. For that single reason alone it derails any substantive debate about policy and instead people start asking him what his favorite colour is, etc. The second reason is because I'd rather the cunts fixed things they were elected to do, instead of spending tons of cash on PR and public perception bullshit to make them more popular...and then fund-raising to feed the PR beast.
But we both know that's boring television.

Re: The Election Thread
ET is hardly the press. The President is the one who has failed to deliver. He could easily sit down with the press core and answer some serious questions...

Re: The Election Thread
ET has ALWAYS BEEN the press. They're the perfect example of what "the press" has been for centuries. I don't know if you're familiar with the history of news reporting, but it never had its roots in rational inquiry...it was gossip and nothing more. Always has been, probably since before the Ancient Pharaohs.
I keep hearing people say "I wish journalism would return to the good ol' days of reporting" and that's just the funniest thing, because there never were any "good ol' days". There are spurts of good journalism and investigation, but that's a drop in the vast ocean of tabloid shit.

back when david cameron was running for leader of the conservatives, he and his main rival were asked on some radio show what kind of underwear they wore (boxers or briefs). a tabloid newspaper (probably the Sun) then used photoshop to illustrate what they might look like wearing their respective choices, and put it on the front pageGONNAFISTYA wrote:My opinion overall is that President's, Prime Ministers, etc should never be doing interviews. words are inadequate to describe just how unspeakably retarded that was
Re: The Election Thread
the inspiration for that particularly idiotic question was one of the original MTV "Rock the Vote" events back in 1992 - a town hall style Q&A session with Clinton and a bunch of gen-x kids where he was asked the same. at the time it was considered "cool" because it forced him to say something unscripted rather than just vomit up Talking Point #43b about making 'Mericuh great.seremtan wrote:back when david cameron was running for leader of the conservatives, he and his main rival were asked on some radio show what kind of underwear they wore (boxers or briefs). a tabloid newspaper (probably the Sun) then used photoshop to illustrate what they might look like wearing their respective choices, and put it on the front page

sexual misconduct, iirc
Re: The Election Thread
this is why I cal this system a perfectly polished turd. It's just as controlling and oppressive as the middle ages... but it polished the edges in a way that keeps the population absolutely, positively content. I don't see that changing at all, if anything it will continue to polish itself into near perfection.
Re: The Election Thread
people were pretty content in the middle ages. at least, they looked pretty content to me
(see what i did there?)

Re: The Election Thread
WTF are you smoking Tsakali?! The saying is that "you can't polish a turd".
Re: The Election Thread
MythBusters concluded that you actually can polish feces.
