ydnar, if you post ot screenies at least care enough to explain them. a photo of a wheel isnt particular exciting if you dont know the backstory ( if there is one).

The ongoing saga.

TLDR:
My girlfriend and I are going on a 2-week cycling trip in southern Japan. So I'm posting "screenies" of what I'm working on-my touring bike.

Edit:
The wheel is completely bomb-proof. It's about as heavy/sturdy a wheel you can build. It has a tandem (built to carry two people) rim, DT-Swiss Alpine triple-butted spokes, and a 14-speed Rohloff hub.

You could use it on a motorcycle.

Yeah, that's true. At least this will resemble a fixie (aside from the million cables going to the rear end).





Edit: The shifter is a standard Rohloff twist-grip shifter, mounted on special 3-piece handlebars from SJS Cycles in the UK. The guy working on the bike is Tyson at American Cyclery in SF. He's had to grind down and modify a lot of little parts to make this bike work. Pretty much everything on the bike is custom or modified to suit. About the only thing that's stock is the saddle, my old trusty Brooks.

36 pounds (16.3 kg) to be exact, plus the weight of the case.

So it's done, it ended up requiring custom fender stays & rubber shock mount, a bar-end wedge made from a wine cork, and a couple modified cable noodles to get everything to route correctly. Woof.

That's not as bad as I expected. My mountain bike is ~50 lbs.

Btw, looks very nice. How's it ride?

If you can and do, sign me up, particularly if it can clamp onto a 26.4mm road bar. The handlebar/shifting setup is the only hokey thing about it. And that gap between gears 7 & 8...


Edit: It rides really nice. Sort of a sherman tank compared to my other bicycles though. It's more that twice as heavy as my road bike, heh. The cable splitters jangle on the top tube, which ends up being a nice musical ring in a way. Still need to sort out chain & spoke tension, and figure out how to pack it in the S&S case.

Kaz, you should map for Far Cry if you want to make an island...

so redfella...have you never mapped for far cry and never played it...and then in under a minute you played and mapped for it and discovered how great it was.
