I stopped reading the thread once it got to page 2 for fear of spoilers. Seems I was right to do so, as someone appears to have posted spoilers and then had them deleted by a mod.
If that base was so powerful that it would rip a star apart, then why drain the star in the first place? Seems to me like there's enough power in the Death Star 3 to do what it needs without draining a star. Seems like a needless step. Just sayin'.

On another note, I was a fan of Rey's bewilderment at Fin's insistence on holding her hand and protecting her, despite her obvious competence.
Even better the second time when you can just take it all in. First time you spend too much time trying to think ahead.
Rey is obviously Lukes daughter. Also I noticed this time when Kylo was probing her mind that she dreams of an island in an ocean where Luke was.

When she touches the light saber for the first time was she seeing the future or the past?
The old dude at the start. Was he someone significant in the past?
It was fucking dog shit
The story was literally every fucking where, the newbie cast was awful - the black dude was alright, ripping off New Hope story and scenes (quite badly too), some of the filming was terrible, then there's the bad guy who ended up being one of the columbine kids... There was so many things wrong with this movie and not even with how it fits in with the Star Wars universe (btw - motherfucker). It was made very bad.
Surprised you didn't even enjoy it for the nostalgia factor then, "It was fucking dog shit" is pretty harsh.

I certainly don't think it was perfect but I still loved it.
I was geared up for the nostalgia but it felt like I was getting ripped off. MKJ said on the last page, some of it (like the targeting computer) was cool but a lot of it (like the cantina scene / Admiral Ackbar) was just cringeworthy, along with the relationship between Han and Leia, the all teenage angst cast n all. Everything was done wrong or worse imo. The New Order n all, wtf ey ?, not even gonna try padding out their story ?. Why even call it Star Wars ?, most of the returning characters were throwaways.

There were some good things but through most of the film I just felt it was rather shallow. All fur coat and no knickers.

Have you rewatched the originals recently? They're also shallow with simplistic plots and reoccurring themes. This new movie had a lot of boxes to check in 2hrs. It was classic Star Wars and did a great job passing the torch.
Thought it was pretty good until about halfway, when winks and nods to previous films somehow turned into simply repeating entire scenes. What the hell? It felt lazy.
No one else is worried about how Poe escaped the First Order then? Magic?
Nearly had a fucking tear in my eye when the Falcon was introduced. Seeing it hit the floor all the time was like someone dragging nails over a chalk board.
Rey looked like she was on the edge of tears all the time.
Poe in the X-Wing doing his thing was bullshit.

Memphis, cunt. Grade a cunt. I actually think i would have knocked his pasty virgin teeth out when i realised Solo was going to die.

About Han Solo; this wasn't something that was blindingly obvious to any of you? Because it was to me, it really was... think i called that shit based on the trailer. Think i also predicted that this whole movie would be a LOTR style search for mr. Luke, who would be found at the end living a hermit's life somewhere because of something terrible or whatever. There's a certain amount (large, huge, enormous) of repetition in the Star Wars universe plot wise.

Poe reappearing was a bit of a downer. I thought it was cool how they had the guts to kill him off.. there's some reasonable doubt on how he returns and it works for me.

Thinking some more about the Starkiller.. it really doesnt have any place in this movie other than embodiment of the enemy.
The plot is getting BB8 to Artoo. Then it turns out Artoo is dormant so hey we got time to kill, let's waste a planet. Then Artoo magically awakens and they continue with their quest for Luke.
Starkiller could be skipped over entirely.

No, not really. Not sure how you can deduce the death of the main character from any of the trailers.

I went in with no expectations, apart from Memphis's spoiler.

Agreed on the Star Killer. it didn't need to exist in the film. I also thought the rebel fleet was missed, would have been better to have their base filmed from there.

Oh simple really; i deduced it based on his reintroduction; no need for that at all unless you're going to off him for dramatic effect. Also, he was not the main character, that was Rey (as a rule you don't kill off main characters - it upsets the viewer). It's Obi all over again, only a different character.

Here's a spoiler for the Star Wars two Star Warses from now; Luke also dies, some sort of a heroic sacrifice that saves the entire galaxy and ensures the continuum of the Jedi way of life (or something). Rey will be his successor naturally, and all will be well with her as the chief jedi, many little jedi's will practice their rainbow swords under her supervision. Etc.

Watched them over the weekend, I didn't really have a problem with simplistic plots - Star Wars was always about space adventures but this was blatantly New Hope and worse. He didn't need to tick the boxes either, that's one of the things that annoyed me and made the plot bounce off the walls.

I liked some of it, the 1st half I was enjoying but it started taking the piss a bit when the search for Luke suddenly becomes Battlestar XTREME.
