I might shoot a whale too if I was a Japanese whaler, but the reality is I'll never be in a position where I'll shoot a whale, or be scared/threatened enough to have to shoot a person.

I'm glad your crystal ball is working. However, I hope I'll never be in that type of situation either.

I prefer life experience and knowledge over crystal balls.
So back to the original question you avoided answering:
Did you have to shoot any attackers on the way to or back from the shooting range?

Just how often is your life in danger?
And if your life is in danger, how would a gun lessen that danger if the danger itself was from an earthquake, a hurricane, a car accident or huffing too much paint?

YourGrandpa wrote:The only reason I'm entertaining your repetitive questioning is because I know based on your previous posts that you've shown a general interest and this is not a troll. Because of my respect for your interest, I've answered your questions honestly and I will try again this last time.
I understand your point. But playing golf and fishing aren't EXACTLY the same as shooting a firearm. However some people do carry their golf clubs and fishing poles with them throughout the day in case they happen upon a situation they could use them. If that situation does arise, they'd be glad to have had their clubs/pole with them to use. Do these people live their lives in fear of missing out on a round of golf or the next world record catch? No. Well this is how I look at my CCW. I'm not planning on shooting anyone, I dont have a desire to shoot anyone and I'm not afraid of anyone. But just like the clubs or fishing pole, I already own the gun and it wouldn't cost me anything extra to have it with me. So why not bring it along? Who's it going to hurt? It's not going to jump out and start shooting people on its own. In fact, it may ultimately end up saving someone's life.
Now that's the best I've got. There are no other ulterior motives or extenuating circumstances. If that's not enough, call me a liar. Because there's no other reason I have to offer.
That's not the same thing at all, based on what you said. Golfers and fishermen carry their clubs and poles with them because they WANT to be able to use them. Not out of some dreaded sense that somebody will make them use them.
It sounds like every case you have made basically rests on the claim that one of these days it will be good to have it. So all you really have to do is show that the risk of a single case where you really need a gun outweighs all the hassle of carrying it around with you every day of your life.
So, can't you think of a plausible situation where it would be better for you to have your gun on you in a public place, than it would to not have it? One where having it not only makes you safer, but also makes it worth the 'hassle' of carrying it everywhere you possibly can?

To answer several questions at once. Not everything that surrounds the possession of a hand gun has to be one exterme or the other. I'm not expecting to die nor do I have the desire to kill someone. For several of you to automatically conclude that there is no possible way that I or anyone could ever find themselves in a situation where a gun could save their life or the life of another is nothing more than presumptuous. The same argument could be made against police officers having guns, since most of them never shoot anyone throughout their career. However, I realize that I'm not a police officer and my chances of ever needing my gun to protect myself are 10 times less. But that doesn't decrease the effectiveness of possessing a firearm if needed. Which brings me back to my original response to the question, "Why do you carry". I have a gerneral interest in firearms and because of that I own a handgun. Furthermore, the law states that if I pass an FBI background check and procure a license,I can carry the handgun I legally purchased. It's that simple.
Why do you guys think guns are such bad things? Is it possible that you may have some deep seeded fear of firearms that causes you to project that fear onto others who possess them? Because your arguments don't make any sense when applied to responsible law abiding citizens. And please, skip the typical BS explanation. A world without guns, wackos and other death causing devices will never exist. Stick to why guns make YOU feel the way that they do.

Except that everywhere else in the civilized world, law abiding citizens don't walk around carrying firearms.
Handguns specifically, serve no positive purpose in general society, other than to protect yourself from other people carrying handguns.

So you've got no answer to the question outside of the same old BS. I suppose one could say that cars are only good for smashing into other cars since a small percentage are used for demolition derbys. You could also say that hands serve no other purpose than to punch other people trying to punch you.

If you don't want to or can't answer the question, it's ok. You don't have to keep responding with more obtuse questions.

You being of such low mental capacity, I'm sure I could keep you repeating the same stupid question over and over. But that would bore me and result in my original qestion not being answered.

serious question gramps, you may of noticed i've not trolled you once in this topic.
if so, man that's one fucked up thought process. The fact you call DM's question 'the normal BS' is also scary because that 'bs' as you call it, is that very essence of everyones amazement you find carrying a hand gun normal.
You and I live in totally different worlds, and i like the sound of mine better.

Gee Gwamps, it's no surprise you can't say the purpose of your handgun, because beyond "I can" there isn't one. There's no actual reason to carry a handgun around other than to protect yourself from other people carrying a handguns, and what you fail to understand is that to the rest of the civilized world carrying around a handgun is fucking retarded. As in "What's wrong with that guy that he has to carry a gun around with him whenever he can", because there would have to be something wrong with someone to do it.

Now that you've said the same shit 3 times, ever ignoring the FACT that handguns are legal in the US. Can YOU say why handguns make you feel this way?

Because handguns serve no purpose in civilized society other than to protect yourself from someone else carrying a handgun. That's why you can't come up with a valid reason to carrying and keep reaching with your off the wall comparisons to other items that actually have a valid purpose.
