The Revenant
A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team.
I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned already.
Great movie and see it if you get the chance by all means. 8/10

The Revenant 8/10
Wow, CGI has never seemed so real in a movie before.
The bear scene alone .. visually perfectly done and realistically portrayed.
I assume DiCaprio went through hell making this movie, I felt every struggle he went through in the movie and in the cold.
You feel like you are right beside him throughout the movie, blowing cold air on the camera lens constantly gives you an idea of how cold it was.
CONS
Every lead ball gun sniper shot is perfect, real world in the bush should have killed him 100 times (if your wet your dead trust me) and the villain character was silly.
Go watch it, you will stay glued to your seat.

Holy fuck this movie keeps it real. It's a documentary and it's very graphic.
Really fascinating viewing.

Not the best movie I've seen recently, I expected more and to be honest, I wouldn't worry about seeing it. 6/10

8/10
For the way it plays out so naturally, probably due to the screenplay. Larson did a fantastic job, deserved the Oscar.
Martyrs (US remake)
no idea/10
Just scrolled through it, didn't watch it. (Almost) same story as the original? Why bother making a remake?
The french original is a very tough horror movie/thriller and secretly ranks about the most acclaimed horror movies of all time.
It's on the french wave-of-horror/thriller that started with La Haine (Hate, 1995), Baise Moi (Fuck me, 2000) and Haute Tension (High Tension, 2003) followed by movies like Frontier(s), A la Interieur (inside), and Martyrs. The common is the ultra brutal shock-value in which they deliver. Definitely not for the faint-of-heart or weak stomach, these flicks go to extreme and graphic expositions of human cruelty.
Why Martyrs needed to be remade, I have no idea. It's almost a 1:1 conversion.
Better watch the original if you are into sick shit.

I read it was more like Fascism vs Jesus and that it was pretty fucking terrible.
Needless to say i'll download it immediately once a proper version comes out.

lt's nothing like that. The trailer made it look boring to me, so I went in with low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by how many badass moments were in it and how badass it was in general. Pretty sad if you are going to let your religious and political beliefs and hangups spoil your enjoyment of the film. It's everything you could hope for in a Batman Vs Superman film. I highly recommend the 3D IMAX version. A download version won't even be close to the awesome 3D and sound you get in IMAX
