Also in the US, Canon is more popular than Nikon because they spend much more on their marketing campaigns for sports. In Europe and Asia both names are equally popular. In Korea and Japan I actually notice more Nikon users than Canon users.

Every time I pick up a friend's Nikon, I have trouble choosing the AF points, continous shooting, etc on it. Maybe its just me, but I hate using a Nikon.

White lenses are cool, sure...but they also stick out like a sore thumb when you are traveling in third world countries.

?

AF-points = press the 4-way key pad.
Shooting modes = press one button and turn the wheel.

Arguing which is better or worse, especially with TB, is a complete waste of space and time, especially when one of his arguments is a scathing "Canon is more popular than Nikon."

Oh and if it makes any difference, even my photo prof who shoots nikon and knows more than anyone here told someone in my class to avoid the D40.

well at the time i opted for a dslr i picked up the 350 first then returned it cause it was to small and clumsy for my hands even with the battery grip. then i looked one set further and there was the choice of the 30d vs the d200 ... i took the 30d cause it was compareable.. sure not as good and a few features less but since i'm a newb to dslr i doubted i would miss one or the other feature... and the 30d was 700€ less at the time and the d200 an rare item hardly to get anywhere... so the money saved was invested into lenses

it all boils down to what is feeling good in youre hand. get into a shop and try the camera take some pictures , play around with it and go with youre gut feeling.

heh.. here you go DB. I got a piece of shit frame to put it in. I did a great job cutting the matte, but I cut the photo down too much so you can see the corners holding the photo down in the matte window :olo:

I probably should have gotten a wider frame too, but eh...

Im a noob but I been reading this thread regularly.
So I have been looking into my cameras capability's and found that I have quite a options that I can exploit.

I know this is a n00bs thing, but for some reason Black and white just makes things look better, even from a n00bs point of view.

Nice photos from all of you.

A shot from me. I know the composition is kind of expected, but I learned so much about my cameras settings today that I was just thrilled to actually be able to see what I could do with it.

Anyway, flame me if ya want.

It's a lot easier to lie with color than it is with B&W. B&W photos have a lot more depth and character than color unless your subject matter is so gripping that it's more important than the composition

The black and white is nice.....making more photos will only improve your photography skills. Don't hesitate to post them.

I'm not sure... I had a hard time telling because they wouldn't sit flat :p

I could tell the cool versions apart and I know it wasn't one of those. The one I framed had a layer of light black that went about an inch beyond the photo's borders
