They updated the specs recently though, which is a good move. But you can still get the highest spec iBook which is less than the 12" powerbook, and almost as powerful.

I'm gonna buy the Sony VAIO A417M when it becomes available mid-may. I'm looking for a straight desktop replacement which will handle all the creative apps with ease, and the screen on that model is one of the best available. It also looks pretty purty :)
They're not really overpriced, there was a comparison somewhere between a 15 inch Dell laptop and Powerbook. Once you got the Dell specced up (they're brilliant with their low-priced can't-fucking-do-anything PCs/laptops) and the software right it was even more expensive than the powerbook.

The small Sony Vaios are great but they're even more expensive.

So, what kind of mortgage can you get working as a sales clerk in a computer game store?

One garage or two?

Dell are ok, but the actual style of their machines kinda puts me off (yeah, i'm an aesthetics whore). I quite like the look of the Inspiron 9300, but i've heard a few complaints regarding screen sparkle.

But yeh, if you bump up the specs, the Dell machines can get pretty expensive.

I still haven't ordered my laptop yet, and i've been looking about for the best deals. I stumbled accross This which seems like a real bargain considering those specs. I've read a few reviews of it online, and most seem to be very positive....

One thing I like about the apple stuff is the educational discount. You can save yourself a nice ammount by telling them you're in higher-education.

brisk, if you get a student developer account for 99 dollars, you can get an once-a-life-time 20% discount on a Apple system. This goes for Powerbooks and G5 macs, it's only 10 percent for an iBook or eMac.

I got my 12" powerbook (1.5 Ghz G4, 768 mB ram, Superdrive) for 1447 euros instead of 1809 euros (see this thread: http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2780)

The Fujitsu laptop looks nice for that price.

i love the idea of mini lappys, and i know they are the future.

but the way the dot pitch is curently spec'ed(rice krispie size) is no good for me.

i want like a 1600x1200 on a 8-10 inch screen.
