Yes, it's Carice van Houten. An award winning Dutch actress. She is a good actress but she didn't convince me either (without knowing the character). She lacks that bigger than life impression all of these fantasy characters have. Also, she has a very apparent Dutch accent, which I find really distracting because it's so recognizable for me.

I wonder why the old commander was all polite and nice to the cunt, when they could have easily burned his village and tortured his daughters to get the information they were looking for. He's just a perverted wildling after all, what gives..?

Wellll, it's not very apparent really, there's just a slight hint of it. Think it's just more noticeable to us. In any case, i didn't think she was very convincing either, seems to lack a certain je ne sais quoi... i r dissapoint :(

Stennis was cool though, he's more than a bit of a grim bastard isn't he?

Yes that's what I say. It's very recognizable for me and yes, that's probably because I am Dutch. I dunno, I just found it to be distracting. Then again, maybe we're far more aware of her because we know who she is. Then again, I didn't have the same problem with Sean Boromir.

Yes I thought the same. Maybe she's too much used to playing characters that are grounded in the "real" world too much.

that last scene made me go :|

I was actually surprised with Carice's acting. she did a good job, and she almost - almost - did it without accent. good on her

I think as long as you're not Dutch, the accent adds an air of the exotic to the character; it's one of the few things I actually approve of in her casting, as the character is supposed to be very mysterious and strange, and the unique accent helps with that.

Am I wrong?
:p
In all seriousness, it's the slight twang that adds flavour. Not being Dutch, it didn't sound Dutch to me, just interestingly different. And let's face it, how many Americans are going to be able to pin that down as being a Dutch accent?

Stannis looks like a massive bore. i can't wait for Danaerys to fuck the shit out of all them with dragons (assuming that happens, which i don't know, since i haven't read the books)

at least we know Tyrion will be around for a long time, thanks to Peter Dinklage blurting out that he's signed up for six seasons in an interview. he, Arya and Danaerys are the only characters i hope *don't* sliced open like renaissance festival pinatas

Could always be a side-plot from a previous timeline, flashbacks, dreams, visions, spiritual visits, etc. Sean Bean is still on the cast due to an appearance on episode 10 this season.

I think they got the actor wrong for Stannis. He's incredibly dour in the books, although he's also incredibly humourless, something the actor playing him has actually managed to pull off. Stannis' character also deepens because of his association with Lord Davos, the Onion Knight, one of my favourites from the books. Davos is his conscience, and a perfect foil for Melisandre. There were elements of that in this episode, so we may yet see the actor redeem himself.

The one to watch though is definitely Theon. He's an incredible character in the books and will be sure to be the centre of massive internet shitstorms. The actor playing him must be pleased as punch if he's got any sense in his head.

It's a good thing you were able to drop your posts per day from 10.31 to 10.30. I was worried you went and got a life or something.

Oh, you have NO idea what a shit disturber he is, not to mention shit fucker.

WTF is with the bowser they picked to play Catelyn Stark? Yech. Have to say that other than that, the casting is great. MUST...CRUSH...JOFFREY'S...SKULL. The actors playing Petyr and Varys and excellent. Conan as Khal Drogo, though...meh.
