lol wut

ok, i'm gonna address your points in order. if by "we" you mean the British people, then that's incorrect because "we" aren't spying everyone - GCHQ is spying on everyone. "we" only found out about it because of an American whistleblower. how can "we" be responsible for decisions we didn't even know about? on the other hand, if by "we" you mean "the people who voted for the current government", then that's incorrect too, since only 65% of "us" turn out to vote in 2010, and "we" couldn't decide which of the shower of wankstains on offer was the least objectionable enough to give a majority. the coalition parties received 59.1% of the total vote (36.1% Con + 23% Lib-Dem), which - given that only 65% of the electorate voted - is equal to 38% support amongst registered voters. not exactly "we" territory, is it?
Now you're just being pedantic. If you genuinely thought that I mean 'we' were spying on each other then you are also a moron, I also firmly laid blame at the tories feet in the very next sentence if you needed further clarification, the one that you deleted in the quote. It doesn't matter how many people turned out to vote either, not voting is an act in itself and one which I'm guilty of. I also made no attempt of stopping the Ripa act and found it a struggle finding support to restrict our ISPs from blocking websites. so yea, 'we'. When I say 'we' it may have nothing to do with nationalism but everything to do with simplicity n all and can include other countries like America depending on the context.
seremtan wrote: also, the German trojan is directed entirely at German residents (it's a piece of software remotely installed on a suspect's computer), unlike GCHQ's Tempora programme, which sucks up everything going in and out of this country - which clearly includes Germany - and isn't targeted in the slightest
I never said otherwise ?, I was saying its rich coming from a country / government that before this revelation was one of the worst advocates in Europe for restricting civil liberties. It is the same n all, just the extent at which Britain has gone in obtaining the information is far greater.

you brought Nazis into this thread. you instantly lost the game

especially poor performance when there was a "Stasi wet dream" open goal right in front of you which would have rendered your Godwin manoeuvre unnecessary

Mate, when I struck that Nazi shot I relegated Godwins rule to league 2 and set a new benchmark for achievement.

Meanwhile in league 2 - they're having problems proving the holocaust happened. It's a world where Geoff actually wins

Ecuador has ramped up its defiance of the US over Edward Snowden by waiving preferential trade rights with Washington even as the whistleblower's prospect of reaching Quito dimmed.

President Rafael Correa's government said on Thursday it was renouncing the Andean Trade Preference Act to thwart US "blackmail" of Ecuador in the former NSA contractor's asylum request.

Officials, speaking at an early morning press conference, also offered a $23m donation for human rights training in the US, a brash riposte to recent US criticism of Ecuador's own human rights record.
oooo, BURN !

Says pretty much why Snowden is sat in an airport too -
Betty Tola, the minister of political coordination, said the asylum request had not been processed because Snowden, who is believed to be at Moscow airport, was neither in Ecuador nor at an Ecuadorean embassy or consulate. "The petitioner is not in Ecuadorean territory as the law requires."

Tola also said Ecuador had not supplied any travel document or diplomatic letter to Snowden, who is reportedly marooned in Moscow airport's transit lounge because his US passport has been invalidated.

A document leaked to Univision on Wednesday showed that someone at Ecuador's consulate in London did issue a safe conduct pass for the fugitive on June 22, as he prepared to leave Hong Kong. The name of the consul general, Fidel Narvaez, was printed but not signed.

everyone involved is now trying to find a way of making 'the Snowden problem' go away in such a way that they can cover their own asses legally/diplomatically-speaking, and without just handing him over to the US

it's basically a game at this point - a game where none of the (state actor) players have clean hands, and they just want come out of it without getting any dirtier

Oh how times change.

Pre-9/11 NSA Thinking
Specifically, the focus is on the potential abuse of the Government's applications of this new information technology that will result in an invasion of personal privacy. For us, this is difficult to understand. We are "the government," and we have no interest in invading the personal privacy of U.S. citizens.

one thing that baffles me about the coverage of this whole story is that the NSA is being placed centre stage (even in the UK media), when it's clear that what GCHQ is doing makes the NSA's PRISM antics look like amateur hour at the kids table - so much so that the NSA sent 250 of its own analysts to Menwith Hill to suck on the giant industrial scale information firehose that is the Tempora programme (and in the process do an end run around the 4th amendment)

NSA isn't reading your emails; GCHQ is

Yeah, as it stands, the NSA issue is chump change compared to the GCHQ. Even if they totally backed down, nothing would change. In fact, I'm sure they'd just send more people to the UK.

I foresee many encryption programs and apps being developed in the coming months...

Where the American media is trying divert attention and blame Snowden our media is trying to blame the NSA ?. Not keeping an eye on the rags but the Guardian seems like a dog with a bone on this story, havn't seen beeb give it much airtime or screenspace ?, but Guardian seems like the only people willing to point fingers at GCHQ seriously.

People who I have spoken to have no idea of GCHQs involvement, not sure if this is ignorance but they appear to know everything about Americas freedoms and the NSA :dork:. Maybe hard evidence is needed ?, idk. No one in our government is denying it or making any attempt to apologise or backtrack though.

Just look at this bollocks from our foreign minister or whatever he is now, Hague
"In both our countries intelligence work takes place within a strong legal framework," Hague said. "We operate under the rule of law and are accountable for it. In some countries secret intelligence is used to control their people – in ours it only exists to protect their freedoms.

"We should always remember that terrorists plan to harm us in secret, criminal networks plan to steal from us in secret, foreign intelligence agencies plot to spy on us in secret and new weapons systems are devised in secret. We cannot protect the people of our countries without devising some of the response to those threats in secret."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013 ... -us-uk-spy

I'm gonna puke. Wtf good is a legal system when something operates under the radar ?. There's a reason why we have things like the Independent Police Complaints Commission. But yea NSA *shakes fist*.

I thought Labour would try beating them with a stick n all, I can only assume they agree with Hague. They laid the groundwork for this anyway. If the EU had any balls they'll threaten to boot the UK out of Europe or atleast tell us to 'sort our shit out' like when they found out the UK police were keeping records of innocent people on file for 99 years, cos I can't see us backtracking on this under our own steam.

Semen - If you ask for clarifications on 'us', 'we' or whatever I swear I'll skullfuck you in the eye

Don't go laying all the blame at 'our' doorstep mind :P. If any of this shit about google, skype, apple, android, MS etc is true then we'd be pissing in the wind trying to get access to that information if left on our own.

yeah, like al-Qa'eda plans it's terrorist atrocities on Skype, throws out hourly updates on Twitter before updating its Facebook relationship to the West to 'it's complicated'. then no doubt they Google 'burqa porn' to find ankle and hand slips and fap themselves to paradise

also, lol @ you for thinking Labour would oppose this. u not bin paying attention for the last 15 years, broseph?
