Can't remember exactly, years since I read the books, but I remember making the link and a friend came to the same conclusion himself.

Well I just Googled it and so far the only theory I found is Coldhands referring to Samwell as "brother" and him being dressed in black like Night's Watch brothers which makes people draw the conclusion he was a former Night's Watch member. So far I'm willing to go along, but to make the jump to Benjen Stark is a bit of a stretch IMO, especially because to me, Coldhands felt like an ancient being and Benjen has been lost for like 2 or 3 years max then.

Two things I didn't entirely get from last episode where why Shireen needed to get burned. Melissandre used leeches on Gendry (Robert Baratheon's bastard son) and burned those to kill three kings. Then burning Shireen, a supposedly true blood royalty would grant them the power of Super Sayan level IV mega turbo strenght, no? Couldn't Stannis just say "eh, leech her, and get rid of Roose with that"?

What I also didn't quite catch from the episode is whether or not Arya actually poisoned Meryn Trant?

He wasn't an particularly important character in the books anyway. Since the whole siege of Riverrun has been culled from the TV series, I don't think Brynden Tully will get any more screen time.

Oh and Edmure Tully is still a prisoner of the Boltons.

Alright episode, not nearly as powerful as the last one but at least they're building up to something big for the last one. I hope.

Getting real tired of the bullshit mayoral problems like assassination attempts in the colloseum Dragon Lady is still having in Mereen though. Kill those ungrateful bastards already, abandon the city and move the fuck on i say.

Was surprised the fake husband got it too though - was pretty convinced he orchestrated the whole thing.

She thought the Sons of the Harpy were keeping quiet now that she was married to Hizdahr. So that problem was considered solved.
Ryoki wrote:Was surprised the fake husband got it too though - was pretty convinced he orchestrated the whole thing.
I was surprised about that too. There's this buildup in the books about whether or not he's a two-faced liar or not and that hasn't been fully concluded yet. The TV series makes it blatantly clear that he's not part of some sort of conspiracy against Daenerys.

The cinematography and choreography have been pretty bad this season. Seasons 1-4 were relatively realistic and movie-quality. This season feels like "Prison Break Season 2" to me.

You know, Dany appears to be a shoe-in for the Iron Throne at this point in the story, but one thing stands unspoken: how are her subjects, wherever she ends up, going to react to the reality of a barren queen who, outside of her dragons, is mother to no-one?

Or are her and Jon Snurrrr gonna hook up and make impossible, incestuous babies with Jon's magic Targaryen spunk?
'Cos, let's face it, at this point in time everyone knows Jon's really the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

I still haven't got a clue who anyone is in this.

The girl in white fucked off and left all her bros standing in the arena at the end, though. Pretty lame.

Oh, and didn't think anything could top The Red Wedding, but then they went and burnt a kid.

The witch cursed her with blood magic, so that she wouldn't have children until "the sun rises in the west". I'm sure that's not to be taken literally either, so there'll probably be some moment that Dany is getting preggo. I'd wager "west" is a reference to Westeros here and the sun rising might even be Daenerys' ascension of the Iron Throne. That's my guess anyway.

I was in tears. It sounds cliché but ever since having children of myself, I can't stand scenes of children suffering or a parent completely panicked because something happens to their child.

Yeah same here, it completely wrecks me. I was holding my hands over my mouth.

Also, it actually did nothing to the narrative of the father's pain. I didn't give a shit about them any more or less at the end of the scene, so I'm of the mind that it was pure gratuitousness and served no actual function. Along with the rapes, it's this kind of stuff GoT would be better with less of.

Reckon Stannis may go full Mad King II, unless the Boltons get him strung up and peeled.
Well, the difference being is that gratuitous violence can be enjoyable regardless of narrative. On the other hand, I doubt there are many viewers who really enjoyed listening to the screams of a burning child.

Seems like a strange event to place in a show without first making sure that there is an incredibly strong arc that leads to that in some relatively predictable way.

Pretty sure the Onion is gonna flip his shit anyways when he finds out about the crispy kiddo. He might even stick his nubby fingers through Stannis' throat.

Why didn't he just blow another load into fire lady and have her send another demon to kill the Boltons? Or was that a one time deal?

I don't entirely agree. Gratuitous violence for the sake of violence itself isn't enjoyable for me either.

I think it does show us that Stannis is, at this point, somewhat detached from reality and does inexcusable things just because he somehow believes they're the right thing to do.

Similarly to the scene of Sansa getting abused by Ramsay, it is a powerful mark in the narrative of the series and does have impact on it. I think Sansa's scene might actually be an extremely clever scene. A much heard complaint is that it is a way of getting Theon to finally snap out of it and act because now there's a woman in peril (because it focused on Theon's emotion rather than Sansa's struggle). There's even a trope named after it, I can't remember the name now. The thing is, in the next episode, when Sansa asks Theon to place the candle in the window, he actually betrays her and goes to Ramsay instead. You might argue that this means the whole rape scene was useless because nothing has changed, but I think it might just be clever to trick the viewer into following the stereotypical tropes and then turning that on it's head.

Then again, there's also scenes like the one between the Sand Snakes and Bronn in the cell, where Bronn turns out to be poisoned (I think I mentioned it before). It's scenes like that which totally baffle me. That scene really doesn't add anything to the narrative. It doesn't really deepen either the sand snake characters or Bronn himself. It only establishes that at least one of the sand snakes is some kind of nymphomaniac that eroticizes the potential gruesome death of another man. I get that the Dornish are hippies and about free love and sex and everything, but this scene just made a complete and utter caricature out of it.

I'm drifting off a bit here. The point I'm trying to make is that I think you are right in what you said when it concerns certain scenes, but I think the death of Shireen isn't one of those scenes because it does drive the narrative forward and does establish some things about a number of characters involved, Selyse (Stannis' wife) breaking possibly being one of the most important things there.

The only thing I didn't like about it was how abruptly it cut to the (at first) lighthearted spectacle of the arena fight which was a bit too much like "ok, forget about that kid burning thing, now this is going to be awesome".

I think we're on the same page, I don't necessarily disagree with the scene, only the fact that the build up and subsequent scenes sandwiched it in a way that made it seem a bit frivolous.

The way The Red Wedding was done was brilliant. No build up, explosion of next-level violence, roll credits. That's perfect. The burning, by comparison seemed clunky
And poorly thought out.

"Hey chick, you gonna help pops?"
"Dunno, depends if you need help..."
"Defo, can't change plans unfortunately"
"Ok then, I'll help you"

i guess what i`m seeing in the 5 epis of this season is the soccormominizationing of G.O.T

85% of the show seems pulp romance novely or something .

it seems by the end of last season the hype slash/energy so enormous it flooded the show with a diff demographic of viewer forever changing the way the shows owners perceived the franchise. maybe i`m just freakin i dunno.

the lil guy is still great tho, like when tied up in the boat he speculates that guys story and that guy pops him in the head lol

then the wine thing , very smooth lol
