NVIDIA Pascal
Re: NVIDIA Pascal
Installed the NVIDIA SLI HB bridge. No measurable framerate difference in these benchmarks at 7680x1440 versus the two single flex bridges I used before.
- Rise of the Tomb Raider
- Dirt Rally
- GTA V
- Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
Games run smooth, but they ran smooth before too. I can't say whether it feels any smoother now. Maybe a little, but that's just my subjective opinion.
It looks kinda cool I guess. I wish it glowed red though.

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
Guys, what are you speculations regarding TITAN X Pascal and GTX 1080 Ti?
Honestly, I'm not sure what to expect. Big Maxwell was a full GM200 Titan X with 12GB for $999 USD and 2.5 months later a cut-down GM200 980 Ti 6GB for $649 USD.
So far big Pascal is a cut-down GP102 with 12GB GDDR5X for $1200 USD, so what's next?
Here's what I think the 1080 Ti will be: 3328-core GP102, reference and custom boards, 10GB GDDR5X, $799 USD - within 3 months.
Opinions?

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
I think it'll be 12GB as well.

This thing is pretty awesome

Just picked up a LGA 1151 mobo, i7 6700k, 64MB of DDR4 3333 and two M.2 SSDs. I just got a 980TI not too long ago. So I'll probably run that until the 1080TIs come out.

Youll destroy most games with that set upYourGrandpa wrote:Just picked up a LGA 1151 mobo, i7 6700k, 64MB of DDR4 3333 and two M.2 SSDs. I just got a 980TI not too long ago. So I'll probably run that until the 1080TIs come out.

That's the plan.
I also want to get back into video recording and editing. This rig should make short work of post processing.

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
My current PC is 5 years old. I'm thinking about building a low end i5 6500 / GTX 1060 / 16 GB RAM machine for Overwatch, Diablo 3, and perhaps Doom. Thoughts? Merits of going 6600 or 6600k? I don't plan on overclocking. I'll be getting a new 144 Hz 1080p screen as well [either Asus VG248QE or BenQ XL2411Z]. So I don't plan on moving up to 1440p yet. I figure this should be enough to run current / near future [let's say a year out] games at 150fps+ @ 1080p on high settings? Of course, I don't expect that to last 2-3 years or more, but I'm OK with dropping to medium when the time comes. I don't want to spend GTX 1080 levels of money, and it seems the GTX 1070 is less vfm than the 1060. Wouldn't mind getting some input and advice, as I haven't been following PC component trends or reviews for many years.

Interesting read on the 1060 - I hae a 970 now so upgrading to a 1060 is a no go for me. It would be 1070 or 1080 for sureU4EA wrote:My current PC is 5 years old. I have a 560Ti so it'll be a massive jump either way.

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
Money is usually what dictates a PC upgrade. Especially a gaming PC. I tell friends who are interested in upgrading to buy as many top tier components as they can. Because upgrading to outdated tech doesn't make any sense and just leads to immediate disappointments. When I upgrade, I try to buy strong base components (what I consider the most important parts) so there is a good foundation for future upgrades. I think the most important component to any PC upgrade/build is the PSU. Spending the money on a quality PSU with plenty of power output (850 to 1000 watts) is a solid investment that could save you money on future builds. The motherboard is the next component you should never cut corners buying. You should buy a quality unit with the latest/most supported form factor, making sure it has plenty of room for expansion and that it supports latest PCIE/USB/RAM etc. Everything else can be compromised for cost. But you should at least try to buy the latest generation. If you can't afford the latest generation right now it would better to save a bit longer than to buy outdated... Also buying a decent case is a good way to save few bucks on future builds.
U4EA, I don't know your budget. But here is a quality build that has the latest tech and offers the ability to upgrade for around $1000.00 USD. It's an 850watt PSU, LGA 1151 mobo, Core i7-6700, 32GB DDR4 2133, GTX 1060 and 480GB SSD. If you have a bigger budget I'd suggest a better mobo.

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
Agree on the PSU 100%
I've got a good 650 watt pack currently but I'll be going to 850watt on the new build.
I'll be going AMD ZEN though. Not gone Intel for quite a number of years so I'm not up on what's what with them. Maybe I should investigate?

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
You should definitely check out the intel CPUs. They consistently out perform AMD.

Until a change in the market happens you're much better off with Intel mate.

AMD Zen might change this but for now def Intel is best choice.losCHUNK wrote:YourGrandpa wrote:You should definitely check out the intel CPUs. They consistently out perform AMD.

Re: NVIDIA Pascal
Like the last bunch of chips, I expect them to close the gap marginally before losing it again.
I'd like it to succeed though, AMD gave me my 1st chip and Intel needs a competitor.

Was going to upgrade my mb/cpu/ram before BF1. Will Kaby Lake be out by then?
